THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

Absolutely. I think the discussions are often just tainted by someone's feel that fit (both physical and in tuning) could be universal. Which, I think, is simply impossible. I sometimes envy people that just own one simple set of headphones and are actually happy with those. On the other hand...

Maybe 3 weeks ago. Listed as a limited edition, using some old shells I’d guess. There’s just „SR325“ on the buttons, without the „x“ that the regular edition has

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

There’s no question that the technology is there. Yet the vast majority simply targets the most likely listening configurations, i.e. stereo speakers. And nowadays maybe Bluetooth speakers, though probably not for classical ;-) Yet that’s not my problem. I don’t crave in-the-head space but...

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

As always thoughtful and well reflected analysis by @jamesjames I do see some headphones try to keep their idea of space more or less regardless of what’s in the recording. This is where the designer has a strong opinion on how space should be. If the listeners opinion matches everything is...

I guess I have a sample of that newer cable on my PS2000x. The sheeting feels nicer but the 12 conductors seem a bit stiffer than in the old variant.

My impressions vs. the GS3000x are very much like yours. The PS2000e is more even, a bit laid back. The PS2000x extends both ends and is in between the PS2000e and the GS3000x in upper mids/treble.

Owning both... they are different enough I think. So the GS3000x is not a scaled up RS1x. The balance is actually quite different, with the RS1x being more mid focused than the GS3000x. Cables are even stiffer on the Statement series, though both get smoother with some kneading. Enjoy your RS1x...

At High End in Munich I had my RS1x with me and tried both the Elise and the Euphoria EVO. The latter worked better for the R1x, and its data sheet also states a lower acceptable load impedance. Unfortunately there's quite a step between those two pricewise...

Hi Fritz, I've tested that one a while ago, didn't wow me at the asking price. Nice clean design, no question about that, but also nothing beyond my A2. Which I already own, can't sell anyway, and actually does an excellent job for what it is: a clean solid state amp in a nice looking package...

In other news I'm right now preparing return shipment for the Schiit Asgard 3: looks OK (I really dislike that the volume pot is silver on the black version, and that its plastic) but soundwise it doesn't impress me at all. Nice amp at that money, but nothing to rave about. It definitely didn't...

As I remember the SR325x I had on loan, the drivers direct surround is plastic within the metal shell, i.e. the part where the pads are held in place. My Gold was shipped today btw, but will take some days to reach me, going through the greedy hands of customs ;-)

That’s exactly how I’d characterize the SR325x. The Hemp had a bit too tame treble for me, the 325 fit my preferences better. I just didn’t like the inner plastic too much… but with the golden shells I think I can get over that. I quite liked the F pads on the Hemp, so it’s nice to get that back...

@ampersandyandy has some good points here... To me the PS2000x and the GS3000x also offer quite different views, even if not radically different. I can fully understand the intent to reduce and select only one of those two -- but I can't decide. I love both the more light hearted presentation of...

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)

Since it’s available since November, I’m sure there are measurements available. With innerfidelity ceasing to exist I lost my point of reference in that regard though

I can only second what @SolarCetacean said above. The E3 is more lively and cheaper, very well done. Best current closed back I’d even say.

I've heard all three, own two of those -- I can try. To me the RS1x has a rather unique position in the current lineup, with a strong focus on mids/upper mids like no other of the X models. In fact its so unique that I would not recommend it as a "one to cover all bases". I do like it for its...

Happy that you like yours, but sorry, I don’t take that kind of advice. I stand by my statement. The others you mentioned are on a similar level of absurd to me. If anybody likes them — fine. I don’t like that price pushing.

Some OT ahead... Yes, getting used to a headphone definitely is possible. The farther off the current experience a headphone is, the longer this will take. I'm currently facing a similar problem: I try to decide between 3 Schiit amps (namely the Asgard 3, the Valhalla 2 and the Lyr+) mainly for...

That’s interesting… I also like house, and I’m quite sure it’s not my music that’s missing bass ;-) With the RS1x upper mids are getting straining to my ears (I’m rather sensitive in that area) before bass would get thumping for me. It’s not that I’m missing something, I now know of it’s...

I've been using my new PS2000x for quite some time these past few days, just lovely. First Grado model I came across that can cope with some deep electronic bass. Love it. I also had the GS1000x on loan over last week. While I really liked the almost orange wood and the very lightweight feel, it...
