Introducing SMSL H400 Hi-Res Headphone Amplifier 1000mW/300Ω,550mW/600Ω Earphone AMP

If anyone gets hold of this who also has the SMSL HO200, I'd be curious to hear an opinion of how they compare. Aside from the obvious difference in power output, does the H400 share the same transparency and acoustic signature?

Need Help Setting Up a Multi-Amp/DAC Switching System for Headphone Testing

FYI, in the watercooler thread, @goldwerger talks about a custom 8-way amp switcher he uses.

Introducing SMSL H400 Hi-Res Headphone Amplifier 1000mW/300Ω,550mW/600Ω Earphone AMP

Impressive specs, but I'm left with an important question: does anyone understand SMSL's model naming/numbering scheme at this point?

what is the most durabel headphone out there?

I recently visited a few schools that teach audio production, and the labs/studios for student use always seem to have a bunch of battered-but-still-working AKG K240s hanging around.

What Are You Listening To Right Now?

I wonder if any of the outtakes involve fistfights between Sting and Copeland, which were apparently a not-infrequent occurance by this point of the band's career.

Has Anyone Else Gone Up Then Back Down the Audio Gear Ladder?

I recall someone on these forums talking about how they added a bass-shaker to their headphone listening chair, and were pleased with the result.

Pick a headphone off my rack ...

Well the SASH Tres definitely did a worthy job during my Dope Lemon listening session. Now it's time for another round. I'm planning to listen to this: Which of my headphones would you choose: SASH Tres 45ohm Monolith M1570 Beyerdynamic DT-880 600ohm Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7b Sennheiser...

Is $2000 The Hi-End Headphone Sweet Spot in Mid-2024?

Thank you for confirming my inclination to just stay (happily) in the $500 headphone range.

Why Is There Not More Pushback Against Active Noise Cancelling Headphones

In my experience, it's the combination of all 3 - sound isolation from the fact ANC headphones are all closed-back, active noise cancellation itself, plus the music I'm playing - that create that "privacy bubble" I'm looking for. I suppose what confuses me about this thread is the premise that...

Post the best headphone deals you have ever got (new/ob/used)

Beyerdynamic DT-880 600ohm, brand new in box, for CAD$130, which works out to under USD$100. I actually already owned this headphone when I stumbled across this deal, but couldn't resist buying a "backup" set.

    DT880 32 ohm vs 250 hm

Very difficult to drive may be overstating things. I find the 880/600 performs brilliantly with a mid-fi amp like the SMSL HO200. If I try to use them with a portable (and likely voltage-constrained) source like the Fiio BTR7, the bass loses impact, transients sound throttled and less dynamic...

Why Is There Not More Pushback Against Active Noise Cancelling Headphones

Sorry to drag this thread off-topic everyone, but I have an opinion about ANC headphones I'd like to share. I currently own the Anker Soundcore Q35, which are absolutely a tier (or two) below the industry-leading models in terms of sound quality. To me, they are a useful appliance. If I'm on a...

SASH Deux & Tres; impressive planars from Ukraine

Question for those who have experience with the Tres as well as a range of Hifiman planars... How far up the Hifiman range do you have to go to cleanly "beat" the Tres? Edition XS? Arya? HE-1000?

SASH Deux & Tres; impressive planars from Ukraine

I just did a little back-and-forth testing, and the only (very, very slight) difference I'd say I was able to detect is that the DO200/HO200 sounds slightly thicker and the BTR7 slightly drier in the mid-bass ... and given the tonal characteristics of the Tres, that touch of dryness is perfectly...

SASH Deux & Tres; impressive planars from Ukraine

To my ear, my FiiO BTR7 drives them with equal authority and impact compared to my SMSL DO200/HO200 stack. Both running 4.4mm balanced output. *edit* I have the Tres 45ohm, not the Tres SE.
