Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Checking in to update impressions since my 'first impressions' note (post 637 on this thread). 620s now have about 50 hours of break-in, about 35 on my head. Comfort remains king on these. I have worn them many hours in a row without a trace of discomfort nor feeling hot/sweaty. Sound isolation...- jlemaster1957

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
620s on deck at last. This is a ‘first impression’ — comparisons to other HPs and across amps/DAPs/dongles will come later. Comfort- I was a bit surprised just how little clamp force there is out of the box- certainly less than when I received the 6XX and that was a used set (read: it’s just...- jlemaster1957

Cayin C9: Dual Nutube, Fully Balanced Class A/AB Portable HeadAmp
Just about to receive the Sennheiser 620S and keen to try with this combo also. 620S is a DD not planar, C9 should easily drive it- like 6XX it scales (or is said to), so let’s see how C9 does with it.- jlemaster1957

Was this you? Actually thought this was quite well done. Pretty representative of other early impressions on this thread and to some degree summarize those for someone wanting a fairly quick take.- jlemaster1957

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
This is a fair critique, and point well taken. I based my statement about review quality with the formal, detailed reviews In mind that Head-Fi solicits from its members, such as this for the 660s. While in a user impression thread such as this it’s of course unrealistic to expect that level of...- jlemaster1957

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Well- I have already ordered them from headphones.com who subsidized his review- so I am unbothered. Josh V was the first audiophile reviewer I listened to at the very start of my participation in the hobby, so I owe him a debt of thanks for that (whatever I think of this review). I agree it’s...- jlemaster1957

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
New YT review dropped today from Joshua Velour He was critical of the tonality and generally found it unworthy of the 600 line. I personally found this a disappointment in terms of a review What did he use for a source?- not stated What did he use for an amp? -not stated Did he only use one...- jlemaster1957

Burson Soloist 3X Performance Head/Pre Amp - 8Wpc XLR with MUSE72320 volume control
Makes complete sense, as you are bypassing the volume stage. Btw this is one of the best features of the 3XP (poweramp) as it effectively turns 3XP into a speaker amp to use with your favorite pre-. Nowadays I am using Freya+ with upgraded tubes but I no longer have the 3XP so am looking at...- jlemaster1957

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Have been in the market for a closed back, considered Focal Radiance, Meze Liric 2, ZMF Bokeh, mostly to facilitate listening during travel and also for office listening/meetings. Those are all much more expensive, but end of the day I dig the Sennheiser sound and thought I’d give the 620S a...- jlemaster1957

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
@ericpalonen this brings up an issue that was raised earlier in the thread- was the 660S2 driver or a derivative of it used in the 620s? User impressions are suggesting a relationship but not 1:1. Even were it so, the closed back nature of the 620S would change the FR. I ask because it keeps...- jlemaster1957

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
I find the 6XX also scales - but also… here we are. There is a gap in what’s out there/available, especially for Senn lovers and this promises to fill that gap. I ordered mine because a) I need a closed back for office use and travel b) I love the 6XX FR but it’s open backed and c) I didn’t...- jlemaster1957

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Link does not connect without permission- anyway assume this is an after-sales replacement cable that can be purchased separately, and that provides this added functionality for those who want it- worth considering for eg Zoom calls where the closed back nature of the headphone may make it...- jlemaster1957

Earlier on the thread someone suggested ~50 hours. When I’ve done this before I connected it to my streamer/Dac/amp and just looped a playlist for a couple of days nonstop.- jlemaster1957

Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP
I think you may need to take a further step into Cayin’s line-up. Consider the C9 portable amp. It is a pure amp (no DAC stage) and ‘amps up’ whatever you feed it. It has a bypass circuit (called pre) that allows the signal of whatever you feed it (like N6Mk2 output) to control the volume/...- jlemaster1957

That sounds horrendous and painful 😣 and so glad you are ok- hope you have family and/or friends also around to support you also in this time. Not to hang out my headphones, com fan-boy flag, but I have always appreciated their policy to allow a 1-year ‘audition and return if you don’t like it’ policy. I personally did this once and they honored it without question- so IMO they’re worth waiting for (you can pay me later @TaronL 😏)- jlemaster1957

Order placed at headphones.com. It’s still listed as ‘pre-order’ there. I have the 6xx and will post comparisons w/o EQ. 6XX takes to EQ well, but I will report without and use my SS chain (Yggdrasil OG—> Burson 3XGT 2023 with SPO2 power chip and quad V7 Vivid upgrades). Do you have any of the other Sennheisers /similar level closed backs to which to compare? As you say, though another closed back, Liric 2 is a $2k USD headphone, it ought to be much better technically.- jlemaster1957

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
Have read through the thread till now and will finally weigh in here. First, @Sennheiser friends- I predict that this is going to be a very successful product indeed. It may have a more mainstream than typical audiophile “reference” appeal, but there are plenty of us bass-heads (in the most...- jlemaster1957

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread
Jim and Charles at VnM are great people. You will not regret your choice I think. I have their Canadian Gold Freya+ set which is 2 GE GTA NOS and 2 Marconi GTB NOS- great air on top, smooth mids, punchy but textured low-end. Not the cheapest but the quality and service is good. Pls they have...- jlemaster1957
