Comment by 'Yakult' on listing 'Focal Elear'
Yeah it seems like the market value has dropped significantly with focal's revolving product line. TBH it felt like too much of a luxury item so I didn't feel comfortable using it as a daily driver- Yakult

Fast, bright headphones with exceptional instrument separation for ~$100?
The K240S compared to the AD700 has somewhat of a midbass hump and low mid emphasis. They're both have enough midbass to be punchy though. The AD700 has a larger soundstage, or the K240 sounds more upfront/forward. Personally I feel the AD700 is more comfortable but a lot of people have weird...- Yakult

How long should full-size headphones that are used daily last before they start breaking?
Weird. I've had an AD700 for about two years and it's turned out to be surprisingly durable. I've dropped it at least a few times but it's still intact.- Yakult

The Audiophile Headphone Aesthetic (and new Denon lineup)
Certainly, I find some headphones more aesthetically appealing than others but it's not a factor in choosing what I'd wear. I normally just take IEMs for portable use because they're convenient. My full sized headphones stay at home. So... anyone else like round earcups? I never really...- Yakult

Rank the Headphones that You Own.
I'm just going to add the ones I've listened to extensively but do not own as well. 1) Stax Lambda normal bias - Sounds great. The only issue is the excessively metallic highs. I'm not sure if I can fix this by changing the source because I haven't tried. If anyone has any ideas I'd like...- Yakult

Headphone Sightings 2
Haha. It might be the lack of frontal or facial shots. The quality is low because I don't have an actual scanner. I once saw a guy there walking around with HD600s. Edit: And here was an XB-500.- Yakult

Show us your Head-Fi station at it's current state. No old pictures please...
Quote: The budget Stax was a Lambda normal bias and SRD-6/SB with a Fiio E7 and A1. Sounds really nice but distinctly metallic which some people might not like. Sound is pretty balanced and has good extension. It's clear and has good sound stage. Vs ATH-AD700, the soundstage...- Yakult

JVC HA-RX700 wind-tunnel like ambient noise?
Could it be due to the closed nature of the headphones? The other two sets you listed seem to be open.- Yakult

AD700 lack of bass. Can i EQ it?
Foobar EQ shouldn't ruin the sound as long as you autolevel it. A parametric equalizer would probably work better though. This is what I use with foobar with AD700. ElectriQ with George Yohng VST wrapper.- Yakult

looking for a recommendation
The AD700 barely isolate at all. There's only a mesh and light foam between the driver and the world. Also they're a bit large and tend to slip down if you are laying down. Active noise cancelling would probably be good at removing snores. I don't recommend the MDR-NC60 though. I haven't...- Yakult

Do you ever go through different bass-preference periods?
I'm going through one right now! I tried listening to the relatively bass heavy HD202 a while a ago hated it. Now it's been a few days since I traded my AD700 with my friend's K240S. I was enjoying the bass for the first day but I found it very fatiguing after listening all day. Now the K240S...- Yakult

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
Quote: Interesting. Personally I can't even tell the difference between LAME V4 and lossless though. I use V3 just to be safe. Strangely, I always get larger filesizes with AAC set to the same target bitrate. I played around with Spectro a bit. These are encoded to roughly the...- Yakult

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
Quote: If you believe LAME V0 has the same sound quality as CB320kbps, then the LAME is superior by virtue of smaller file size. It really irks me to find music encoded in MP3 at 320kbps. If I wanted to have best sound quality, then I'd use something lossless like TAK. Also though...- Yakult
