CES 2017: MQA announces TIDAL Masters, and more
Absolutely agreed on the differences b/w the two versions of Tigerlily -- in "River" the beginning of the Hifi version is boom boom bass hot, whereas the Master track is more... restrained piano only. In fact, and I'm going kind of nutty trying to articulate this, but the entire Master track...- deadie

Tidal Lossless Streaming
Trying to play the new "Masters" tracks through my Hugo on a PC, and I'm not getting hirez. Have confirmed that the Hugo hirez inputs / decoding works, as I'm able able to play 96/24 / DSD through JRiver. Does Tidal necessarily equate "Master / Hirez" to MQA, so one must have latter DAC... -

Vocal and Acoustic Lover, Cheers
Thanks a ton for this rec - Kirsty Huke is fantastic. Her CDs appear to be out of circulation, so Tidal lossless is the way to go right now. Other than her "Wish You Were Here" cover (on Deloo) her "Don't Worry 'Bout Me" track is incredible - just her sweet voice and standing bass. -

Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions
...than the MJ2, punchier, more impactful low end. That punch comes at the expense of absolute transparency and 3D soundstage, however. MJ2 is more *whoa* detailed overall. I "fill in" the MJ2 low end with a vintage McIntosh preamp with EQ, when needed. Two specific tracks that...- deadie

Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions
I've been running my MJ2 almost non-stop since receiving it Friday, and found the bass quality definitely improved -- hits harder, is tight, and sufficiently deep. I have my Hugo going through my McIntosh preamp for EQ, then to MJ2, and have dialed back both low/high freqs.- deadie

Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions
My experience exactly matches this with the 800 & X. So much so, I just don't listen to the cans on the same day. My brain needs to reset and start from scratch, listening and appreciating each on its own absolute merits. Received my MJ2 on Friday, very much enjoying it thus far with...- deadie

McIntosh MHA-100 headphone amplifier review
...(at least for now) in the LCD-X, HD800, and maybe Ether. I love my Hugo DAC. And I love trying out loads of different amps to try to find that *one* with abundant power balanced with refinement and musicality. I'd be happy and satisfied with any of the amps I listed above. But the...- deadie

CanJam SoCal 2015 Impressions Thread
First and foremost, thank you to all the organizers and volunteers for their hard work to put CanJam 2015 together. Having attended my first meet back in 2007 at / near LAX, it's been awesome to see how this hobby has grown / evolved with new vendors and technology. Looking forward, I...- deadie

Tidal Lossless Streaming
Along with lossless on my desktop, another indirect / tangential reason for me to stick with Tidal is that TMobile (here in the US) now allows for unlimited 4G LTE streaming of music services such as Tidal, Spotify, Pandora, etc. These music streaming services don't count against our tiered... -

MCINTOSH LABS INTRODUCES NEW HEADPHONE AMP MODEL MHA 100
I've demo'd both the MHP1000 and the HD800 on the MHA100 and IMO - the MHP is definitely a "funner" can, boosted on both ends, whereas the Senn is just more open, realistic, and musical, more suited for longer term listening sessions. I'm with griff, get both of them. They don't compete...- deadie

Chord Hugo - The PORTABLE discussion thread
Something's amiss. I also own the Hugo, UERM, and M8 - the Hugo is pretty much silent with the UERM (and UE10) with nothing playing, whether there's a source plugged in or not. With nothing playing, Hugo's background at max (white) volume is quieter than the M8 at minimum volume.- deadie

My set up for the past 3 days: PC - Hugo - McIntosh C31V preamp - Emotiva Mini-X speaker taps - Balanced HD800. To the right of the monitor is a McIntosh 2505 amp with headphone output and a Logitech Transporter. That was my main desktop headphone rig until I decided to see how...- deadie

MCINTOSH LABS INTRODUCES NEW HEADPHONE AMP MODEL MHA 100
I've been mulling over Ascend's Sierra 2 with that RAAL tweeter, to be driven by my 50-watt MC-2505. I need to get up to Orange County to their factory to demo it. Slightly taller than the KEFs, same price.- deadie

AURALiC owners unite!
I remember reading a review a while back on the Taurus MkII (I think it was project86's?) where he mentioned the amp sounded different between the singled ended TRS jack and the balanced jack, and even preferred some aspects of the SE sound. I thought pshaw, no way. But then I went to...- deadie

MCINTOSH LABS INTRODUCES NEW HEADPHONE AMP MODEL MHA 100
Yep - Mike Sastra, cool dude, knowledgeable, chill. Yeah there's definitely potential need for resistors between the source and amp, tons of good info particularly in the Emotiva thread. I also have a Mac 2505 amp (50w) in my office, which I use dual purpose, driving speakers as well as...- deadie

MCINTOSH LABS INTRODUCES NEW HEADPHONE AMP MODEL MHA 100
The output direct from the RCA or TRS jacks to the speakers is surprisingly robust. I'm using efficient Paradigm Monitors, and while the Hugo doesn't take it up to room filling levels, it's very musical and more punchy than you'd expect. But, on topic, I want a MHA-100. ;) Man I'm...- deadie
