Cable that brings out the best in the SUPERLUX HD668B budget earphones ?
I can suggest a cable I just bought from Dyson Audio which really cleared things up top to bottom. Very nice price as well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/350741411796?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649- PatOMalley

Little Dot Tube Amps: Vacuum Tube Rolling Guide
been playing my mkiii for a little while and i think i've hit on a couple combination of tubes i like. stock power tubes + GE JAN5654W stock GE drivers are too dull for me. Amperex 5654 are really nice but a little thin compared to the military GEs. The GEs are detailed and add...- PatOMalley

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
Did you remove the filter? And are you coming directly off the DACs instead of off the PCB? I know that's an ugly picture but it shows the missing filter and the silver wire go over to each DAC fore output ...- PatOMalley

Not sure if this will make the difference but early on i did a mod to clear up some distortion. Dropping the resistance on input to the dac board to 1.2k using 2k + 3.3k on the board I had.- PatOMalley

I get it. Which means if I put my last 110ohm resistor inline, meaning using 110 instead of 47 in the places you indicate, I will have both iput working and isolated but at 110R. Did you ever try 100R before settling on 47R? Quote:- PatOMalley

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
Steve, I am a curmudgeon. True enough. Yes, I did see a quick mention of OPT. I can only say that bass is profound are here. I do not have cutting edge stuff, just Paradigm Studio things with a bunch of drivers that are not shy on bass at all. not sure if they accentuate bass. But I...- PatOMalley

a comrade informed me 6moons Steve Marsh finally completed the Teradac review. I don't think much of it but here it is: http://6moons.com/audioreviews/teradak/chameleon.html ahem ... no bass? harumph. and why the hell no mention of output transformers? i am starting to get a complex.- PatOMalley

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
rhodes, getting ready to do the 74HC04 mod and i have a question. so the two 47ohm resistors, are they in series? if so why can't we keep the 100ohm resistor in place as it adds up closely to what the two 47ohms are? And if i do choose to leave my 110ohm texas resistor in place for the...- PatOMalley

marcelnl, i just gave you the reasons. ;-) anyway, there is a very nice inexpensive transport i bought from little dot that has removed the nasty periodic noise bursts i was getting from my nad cdp. the little doc cdp_1. it's a little slow to respond to commands, my only gripe. otherwise...- PatOMalley

one reason the change the output stage with tube buffer or transformer is to gain advantages from galvanic isolation and/or impedance.- PatOMalley

i had one laying around that someone gave me. so i didn't have to order anything. can you send a link back to the exact post with directions? my camera broke and i have to get another so i can't show a latest photo. but if you look at this picture it is the one top left. i removed it and...- PatOMalley

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
i did a little something. i removed the 110R smd and replaced with a Texas 110R on the clock on the input card. And it is a wee bit better on the resolution tip. Crazy. Getting tight in that area with all the wire and the Texas jutting off a wee bit. It was more a dropping away of...- PatOMalley

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
game over. I have been watching but have felt content with the sound of DAC that I am no longer compelled to make any changes. I am not striving for the highest rung on the bar. Probably could nudge this thing forward but I KNOW I have hit the sweet spot. full disclosure: I am...- PatOMalley

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
No need but putting up with them while they burn in is a drag. for me I get a top end sibilance and image parallax that distracts. Like looking through old poured glass walking down a halway. Keeps changing. argh. But the rest of the band is cohesive enough. I swapped my ol VALAB back in...- PatOMalley

Why do you need the Chameleon if going I2S connection? You don't. Easy enough to stack those DACs on a perf board with the required caps and just go. You would need a power supply but if you are going down this road that should not be an issue - plenty of add-on PSUs out there. Would cost far...- PatOMalley

Little Dot I+ Tube Rolling
I did like the Amperex branded Mullards. Smooth detail, no edge, a lot of bass, full mids, but a light touch in the upper mids and up. Got them here: 33Audio Vacuum Tubes-Amperex-RCA-Motorola-Sylvania Quote: Originally Posted by oblivious hi all, looking at potentially...- PatOMalley

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
I liked what the Yaquin did with the VALAB, added an increase in midrange presense. But it did the opposite with the Chameleon. After direct coupling the Chameleon I then tried putting the Yaquin after it and it thinned things out. And what the Cinemags do is 'allow' the flow better than...- PatOMalley
