Gun-Fi
I've been pretty satisfied with my last audio upgrades, and am content with my new road bike, so I decided to drop some money on hobby #3. First time I've seen a PPS in grey, so I had to get it.- dkjohnso

Hiking - advice and discussion
A few years ago I spent a week on the trail up in Connecticut. The portion I was on was not difficult at all except for a couple hills which wouldn't be a problem for a healthy, reasonably fit person. It's a really beautiful area.- dkjohnso

Indigo Echo Dj impressions
The DJ has a surprising amount of power: the headphone amp is quite good. Plus, there is a line out for running into a dedicated amp if you upgrade. For laptop users looking for a usb or pcmcia card under $100, I would put the DJ at the top of the heap. It is a very, very good source.- dkjohnso

Nightwish
I love Nightwish; have everything they have every released. I think Anette is quite good, but not at the level that Tarja was. She has a more ordinary voice, whereas I think Tarja had a really special style that made Nightwish unique. Would love to hear them live sometime. -

Out of stock now - Altec Lansing IM716 $20 shipped from newegg
These are really fantastic: thanks to the OP. They are much much better than my old ER6i. More detail, and more soundstage, which I didn't expect from an IEM. They are also quite a bit more comfortable, mainly I think because they are circular, not rectangular like the ER6i. Quite a deal for $20.- dkjohnso

Double blink test on AAC 256 K v ALAC
And Comment #2 was addressing the fact that iTunes does not have a built in method of blind testing. Foobar2000 allows you to ABX two tracks in a truly blind fashion, and after a number of trials gives you the probability that you are guessing. It has nothing to do with being bit perfect or not.- dkjohnso

special modifications for headphone listening
After listening to the latest sample, I stand by my previous comments: the modified file sounds more distant, and in comparison, the original file has a more compressed soundstage. However, I like the sound of the modified file...it is a matter of preference. -

special modifications for headphone listening
I mean that the difference between the original file and the modified file are quite obvious (I listened to the "September" clip). Overall, volume is lower and the soundstage seems to be expanded front to back. In the original file, the opening guitar is clearly on the left. In the modified... -
