The Headphone Driver Pics Thread
Nah, both voice coil wires were soldered onto the "pins" just fine. Tested with multimeter and everything.- WaffleIron

The Headphone Driver Pics Thread
Got some HD520's recently but unfortunately one driver is dead. Here are some interesting pictures. Visually nothing is wrong with the driver so I suspect it's the voice coil that has given up. The other driver still works fine. If anyone wants the functional one to fix something of for whatever...- WaffleIron

DIY Planar magnetic heapdhones in details
My god man you're coming along wicked fast. Looking incredible so far. I'll be starting work on my planars again soon which should be fun. Out of interest, how much does it cost you to get custom magnets done? I've mostly been using off the shelf bar magnets but they have some downsides and I'd...- WaffleIron

Orthodynamic Roundup
eBay. I'm scared to say what I got them for, because I know half this thread would die inside. I've already got a friend interested in purchasing them so far. Unless you're prepared to be offering a pretty big sum, I'll probably stick with him since he asked first and he's a chill dude.- WaffleIron

Orthodynamic Roundup
Gday boys, got a new toy to show off. Copped some Aiwa HP500's for pretty cheap recently, and I got some low quality phone pics of em, and an "interesting" opinion about them. Unfortunately no tear-down as I'm probably going to be selling them soon. Imgur album: https://imgur.com/a/l9f3C Also...- WaffleIron

The Mod Collective: Bring all your full sized headphone mods here.
I'm back, again.. Hopefully the final iteration of the CALMOD, this time with both open and closed variations. Pretty much the same as the old CALMOD in terms of what I modded, but with some key minor adjustments. I switched to bluetack entirely other than the center port, as the sticker...- WaffleIron

CHIFI LOVE Thread-A never ending IEM-Heaphones-DAP-Dongles Sound Value Quest
Hey, I'm looking to grab a handful of mega cheap IEMs with a lot of potential to be unlocked with modding, or just in stock form. Any suggestions? No name rando stuff is fine, as long as its easy enough to find. Already grabbed some Uiisii Hi820's as theyre supposedly the same driver as the...- WaffleIron

Yo. I got bored and decided to see what would happen when I re-closed the CALMOD. I wasn't expecting this.. So flat. Sounds pretty damn close to that too. Does close in the staging and bring the decay back to what the stock CAL! would be, but you also get back more of the bass impact, and...- WaffleIron

Been a while, but I finally got around to finishing documenting how to do the open back CAL mod. Sorry for being lazy lol. Anyway, it's super simple. Get two ~15mm circle adhesive stickers and cut them in half. Tape and anything else sticky also works as long as its roughly the same size. We're...- WaffleIron

Yeah sorry, I was intending on redoing the mod with stickers soon after I had posted that, but got sidetracked with building a new PC and other stuff. Yes, the mods are pretty much entirely restrictive. I made a new measurement of the different levels that restricting the center port results in...- WaffleIron

Yeah I tried it. Certainly sounds fun, but I was going for a much more tame and linear tuning.- WaffleIron

Stacking magnets?
Bigger is better, as they say in America. Yeah I was somewhat concerned about that. I ordered some smaller 20mm x 5mm magnets too just in case, but I'm not too worried.- WaffleIron

Walnut V3 dac amp with balanced output
Be wary of output impedance with that. Many TPA6120a2 implementations have a far higher output impedance than many portable IEMs/headphones would need to not be affected. No clue as to how this particular implementation is in that regard, but It's something to think about.- WaffleIron

Stacking magnets?
Very cool thread. Bought some beefy 25mm x 20mm n52 magnets that I'll be chucking on some silk drivers with less than stellar magnets. I have a UMIK so I may be able to actually record the results.- WaffleIron

Here is my open back + baffle modded Creative Aurvana Live. Really nice headphones stock, but you can get a good bit more out of them with some fairly simple modding. I used some packing tape to cover some porting in the baffle, but I will be buying some small little arts/craft adhesive "dots"...- WaffleIron

Orthodynamic Roundup
You mean like this? I might add a couple very small dabs of hot glue just to hold the thing in. As long as I don't get any on the diaphragm it shouldn't be too dangerous. If you're offering the bluetack, I got the time :^)- WaffleIron

Orthodynamic Roundup
Have been without a soldering iron for the past week or whatever so I haven't been making much progress, but I have made a really basic baffle for the TDS-16 drivers to go into some Beyers. What would the best way of mounting this be? I'm pretty sure I remember some of you using some white stuff...- WaffleIron

The Headphone Driver Pics Thread
Makes sense. When I pulled the driver's out of the baffle (which was quite the crusade with a scalpel), I did notice the driver was quite heavily crinkled. I figured I had just done that when I was ripping it out. I "pulled" the crinkles out with some blu-tack before taking the photos. I'll play...- WaffleIron

The Headphone Driver Pics Thread
And now, a Focal Spirit One (?) driver. Copped these for rather cheap, as one of the drivers (the one pictured) was rattling. No visible damage, so I can only assume some debris has got stuck between the magnet and coil, or something of that nature. Interesting driver. From what I could tell...- WaffleIron

Orthodynamic Roundup
Yep, have a spare M50 housing that I can mess about with. I also recently acquired some TDS-16 ortho drivers for cheap from Kiev that I've got nothing to do with. Feel like I should slap them into something a bit more substantial. Probably going to have to go at something with a dremel. Here are...- WaffleIron

Anyone have any idea as to how to remove the driver/baffle from the rest of the Yamaha HP-3 housing? I've pulled off the pads and found all the clips, but even after pushing all the clips in, it doesn't seem to budge.- WaffleIron

crinacle's IEM FR measurement database
He uses 8MM tubing for most of his IEMs, and 10mm when he needs it for larger IEMs. Also, be careful when pulling tubing off. The mics tip that holds the capsule isn't fastened very well. It's advisable to carefully pull it off without putting tension on the wires that run to the capsule, and...- WaffleIron

My HP-3's finally came today. In near perfect condition so I honestly don't want to pull these apart. I measured them though: https://imgur.com/a/3vbez Only posting album because embedding the images would be kind of irritating for others due to size.
