LOL, gees you are making this a hard choice :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. I am looking for primarily a speaker amp of about 8-20 watts . Im looking for a full range sound with great soundstage , I love natural sounding vocals . I plugged my UltimatE into my speakers which are 96db efficient...- crakers7

Yep, the 5B/254M requires its own special adapter , only due to top cap being slightly smaller than 807- crakers7

I don't think Ive come across an 807 I don't like , these are Hytron JAN VT100 807 made in 1944, they have a lovely semi transparent grey glass and sound wonderfull . Especially with vocals like in this track , no idea what she's singing about but it sounds beautiful . Tung Sol 6BW4, HYTRON 807...- crakers7

Thanks for this advice , so the problem is with the EL81 tube , not the adapter ? It's just strange that it happened with both pairs that are very different . Also why would the mA vary so much , is that also part of the resonance problem ?- crakers7

I think its some sort of ground fault in the adapter, when i touch the top cap on adapter the loud hum disappears , also when a multimeter touches the test points the hum comes back and mA goes up to 65-70 , tubes got very hot also . Removed the EL81 from amp and will order some new adapters...- crakers7

Yesterday I tried my EL81 tubes in UltimatE , with both pairs the mA went up to around 70 and I got very loud hum , it was unlistenable . Can anyone explain what may be the problem ?- crakers7

They sound wonderfull , great tone , base is good , vocals sound excellent , however there is a difference in the balance , the vocals shift to the left and the left tube is biasing at 39mA and the right at 35mA . It's a shame as apart from that they sound excellent . I will look for another GEC...- crakers7

That was me , I received the replacement but Langrex ran out of the the GEC Black glass and so sent me a grey glass , I am not sure if they are exactly the same tube internally but they look to be . Hopefully they are OK to be used together , I will try later today and let you know. :gs1000smile:- crakers7

I spoke with @Zachik and asked if he would grant me permission to edit and/or take over the Tube compatibility spreadsheet and he said - "Sorry mate - I prefer to avoid "too many cooks in the kitchen"... If you want me to add specific tubes that were verified - please PM me." So its all good ...- crakers7
