Woo Audio WA8 Review - Head-Fi TV
I use mine only for AMP duty. As a transportable kit I stack it with an iDSD Signature Finale for DAC duty. I feel the BurrBrown DAC inside the iDSD is way nicer to my taste in music then the ESS DAC in the WA8. I also use it as a desktop amp with an MHDT Orchid DAC. To me the amp of the WA8...- Loftprojection

Tube based DACs?
Look at the MHDT Orchid. Check the stellar feedback from all that own or have owned it. I have mine for several years and still don't see when I would be tempted to change it.- Loftprojection

Woo Audio WA-8
Ho, I did an initial burnin phase of around 100 hours. I have it for a few years now, I don’t know but I must have something between 500 to 1000 hours on it.- Loftprojection

Woo Audio WA-8
Mine has no harshness whatsoever in the treble, just nice and sweet sounds. Yap, the WA8 is HOT, very hot, this is a desktop unit, you don't put it in your coat pockets for sure. I see no need for a fan though, this would make annoying sound for nothing, Woo has built ventilation slots so the...- Loftprojection

Ibasso PB5 the next dedicated portable Amplifier
Ya, all the transportable DAC I know of have an amp section as well, almost all transistor amps. I use a tube amp (Woo WA8) that I have no intention of replacing and I've been waiting for some time for a transportable R2R DAC. No USB is unfortunate because it's a no-go for me, my source is...- Loftprojection

Ibasso PB5 the next dedicated portable Amplifier
This NOSDAC is interesting being the only transportable R2R I think exists. It’s too bad that it has only a coax input, no usb, that limits it quite a bit.- Loftprojection

Ibasso Discrete portable DAC with R2R D16
You are right that it would be fun to have more comparison info between D16 and Onix XP1, after all they are in the same price range and both "transportable" DAC/AMP. What I would have loved is if Headfonics would have connected them both in LO to the same amp, like PB5 so we could have more...- Loftprojection

Hifiman Serenade - Himalaya Pro R2R DAC headamp all-in-one
You might want to ask your question on other Hifiman threads that use the Himalaya, it may be problematic on the EF600, 400, ….- Loftprojection

Hifiman Serenade - Himalaya Pro R2R DAC headamp all-in-one
Any of you ever compared Serenade to EF600 when used as a DAC only? I don't need the amp section so I'm tempted by the EF600 for it's form factor (and headphone stand) but my primary priority is sound quality so I would not get the EF600 if DAC wise the Serenade performs better. As well, if...- Loftprojection

Ibasso Discrete portable DAC with R2R D16
The Headfonia review that just came out is very nice but it would be fun to also get more direct competitor comparisons. I find it quite flattering that D16 is able compete positively against Hugo2 and Onyx, would be nice to have some comparo to other battery transportable DAC/AMP like Woo WA8...- Loftprojection

New Arrivals At Apos Audio: Upgrade Your Sound—Ray 12AX7 SELECT and CORE Vacuum Tubes
You guys rock, thank you for bringing new solutions in the tube market. Tube rolling is fun but can become very expensive and risky when you have to buy from unknown sellers. You could also think about adding select and reserve tube amps to your core amp lineup, that would be awesome...- Loftprojection

Ibasso Discrete portable DAC with R2R D16
If I may ask, why not use only your iPhone instead of buying an expensive DAP that has a DAC and AMP for transport use only?- Loftprojection

Ibasso PB5 the next dedicated portable Amplifier
This NOSDAC is only a third of the price of D16, even more of RS8. Seems a pure DAC though, no amp section. Would effectively be very interesting to have some info on it's sound vs other options on the market.- Loftprojection

Portable R2R options (dongles and DAPs)

Portable R2R options (dongles and DAPs)
Thanks for this info, even though I don't really understand, haha, this is a great explanation of those two concepts. I believe there are two 1 bit DAC devices, the RU7 and the iBasso D16, both not very expensive devices like some R2R DACs. What's funny is even though according to your...- Loftprojection

Ibasso Discrete portable DAC with R2R D16
Hey thanks much CharlyBrown, I read Twisters review when it came out but didn't remember he covered this use case, my bad! Based on the feedback of a few people here I'm sure there are subtle positive differences when using a high end DAP as source instead of an iPhone. However I think a lot...- Loftprojection

Wow, that's very nice of you Twister6 to provide such a custom comparo. In case you already tried that and by memory, would you say iPhone as transport vs DX260 would be a big loss in sound quality?- Loftprojection

In my opinion reviews always need to be factual on functionalities and be the honest opinion of the reviewer on subjective things like sound. Whether it pleases or not the audience should never influence the reviewer. It is up to us consumers to read multiple reviews from multiple reviewers...- Loftprojection
