    HiFiMan Susvara

People get bored of even the best headphone. Wait till there is really a replacement for Susvara. They are likely trying to protest that US ban on TikTok being owned by the Chinese government owned ByteDance. Ironically TikTok is banned in China.

    Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

Pad thickness will alter the sound of your headphones. How it does that really depends on how they built the headphone. If the driver is too packed in you can get some pressure build up when listening to music so your ear feels stuffed up. Thicker pads help ease that and you can feel bass...

So you mean a scissor will convert that Ultra to Serenity pads? And why are we discussing tampons now?

    HiFiMan Susvara

I was looking into it and yes their distortion is close to zero at audible frequencies but it gets crazy bad at ultrasonic levels. I recalled one of the frequency testing from audioscience forum showed that from 130khz + it gets crazy high dB distortion? I don’t know if these ultrasonic...

    HiFiMan Susvara

Just wondering, because I see you are using a class D amp for your Susvara, how does the Susvara handle all that power? The amp you have gives out 800W of power. How much electricity do you use for headphone listening?

    Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

Sounds like the “burn in effect”. In this case it got burnt out? Most people would think that burning in means leaving it on at normal volume for hours. However, you can achieve the same with higher volume for much less hours. The risk is damaging the drivers sooner.

    Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

I got the Zmf auteur lamb skin perforated pads and the Bokeh pads set. Funny thing, the bokeh pads are the same as the auteur pads but cheaper in price. I chose perforated mainly for comfort reasons. Though not sure if there is material difference but the Zmf pads are a bit more squishy. This...

    Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

I only tried the ZMF pads. So far I like it, but everyone’s ears are different. Dekoni pads are likely thicker but I haven’t tried those.

    Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

My take on the ZMF pad rolling difference is due to their depth and materials. The ZMF pads are inherently thinner than stock pads. People using them will likely get a stronger sense of mid and bass because your ears are physically closer to the driver. The materials give it a different feel...

    Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

You must realize that ZMF got their pads made in China too. I wouldn’t be surprised if their supplier decides to sell their pads online for cheap. This is unfortunately a common practice in China. The only way to prevent this is to have “official protection” which is only allowed to domestic...

FLUX Mentor Class-A dual-mono headphone amplifier.

Was there a specific reason for keeping it low gain? Is it because the power output of the Mentor is too high?

FLUX Mentor Class-A dual-mono headphone amplifier.

I believe the Mentor wasn’t built for speakers. Don’t they require a certain level of amperage to run?

Mod House Audio Tungsten - Planar Magnetic Headphones - Impressions and Discussion

The Jot 2 will have you covered on the power end. The problem is the DAC is far from sufficient. You need at least the Yggy GS2 to bring out the best on the Jot 2. Many people, me included, thought the Jot 2 was just some low budget to at best mid fi amplifier. Boy was I wrong when I hooked it...

Try this: Quiet Fan They have different sizes. These fans can double as your spacer between gears. They have rubber feet that absorbs vibrations and hold the gears apart so you stack your DAC/Amps. This will cool both of them at the same time.

SJY Audio Starry Night Planar Magnetic Headphone

Have you tried modding the Horizon by adding a washer under the 4 screws? This would increase the space and may improve the bass and reduce the pressure. Looking at the Horizon, it is likely suffering from the same problem as the Tungsten where the headphone is too compact. Also much of the...

    Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

I suggest waiting for other reviewers, unless you have the exact dac/amp setup. His reviews are skewed towards mid fi headphones and HiFiman cans. I end up disagreeing with most of his reviews so I stopped watching.

MJ3 need 100 hrs + burn in. The DAC is also a possible issue. I had the same sibilance problem until the burn in time was reached. A cheaper and quicker fix is to preamp with a tube amp into the MJ3. Get the 99 dollar version Schiit is putting on sale.
