Woo Audio WA8 Review - Head-Fi TV
Good question. The Tube Mini and WA8 actually sound a lot closer to each other, believe it or not. They both have the same nice tubey sound and the same shortcoming that they lose lot of detail in the mids (due to the DAC, as compared to the TT2 which is a top-tier DAC). The difference is that...- tjkohli

Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
You are correct. It’s basically to power Susvara/1266/etc. or possibly electrostatics down the road. It’s also to explore adding a bit of tube sound. That being said, I’ll try the pre-amp outs in the future. I don’t think the issue is as mundane as just volume, because I’ve compensated for...- tjkohli

Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
I always used DAC mode — never used preamp mode (was scared to blow something up, lol). When using DAC mode, it seems TT2 disables volume control.- tjkohli

Woo Audio WA8 Review - Head-Fi TV
Enjoying my new WA8 with the Diana DZ. FWIW the website says it's a 24-bit/384kHz DAC but on my Macbook it maxes out at 32-bit/768kHz. Possibly a silent upgrade?- tjkohli

ZMF Caldera Closed
As promised — here's my (for now) Caldera! It's also for sale. I loved it; I just prefer the sound signature of the DZ a bit more. Here's my review of the Caldera vs. DZ- tjkohli

Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
I have a question — I've been thinking of exploring some dedicated tube headphone amps for a while. However, in the past (like with Oor, Jot, etc.) I have found that going from TT2 (DAC) → any amp really destroys the tonality and detail that the TT2 has by itself. My question is— is the TT2...- tjkohli

Diana: the second release by Abyss Headphones!
Sub-bass hits pretty hard for a planar. Mid-bass is accurate and still quite good. Much more bass overall than a Utopia 2022, for example. Probably similar to the MR in bass, if not a tad bit more. Timbre is amazing, very nice. Sounds very smooth and natural. It's addicting, especially with the...- tjkohli

Diana: the second release by Abyss Headphones!
Could very much be the case on why the DZ wins for me, but that doesn't make the rest of my review invalid either. I wrote what I heard — 80% of my review is relatively objective. Bass quantity, soundstage, build quality, comfort, etc. I shared my opinion at the end — but I want people to form...- tjkohli

Diana: the second release by Abyss Headphones!
Stock perforated pads! I only have used the DZ with the Chord TT2, Woo Tube Mini, and Woo WA8. The TT2 sounds incredibly detailed and flat, while the tubes add a bit of character in the sound, but at a loss of detail & placement. It just taught me that the DZ scales incredibly well and is...- tjkohli

Diana: the second release by Abyss Headphones!
I had the MR and got rid of it pretty quickly. Other than form factor, it literally shares nothing with the DZ (other than possibly tonality). The DZ is just way better and more intense and grandiose in every single way. Better bass, better mids, better highs, better soundstage.- tjkohli

Diana: the second release by Abyss Headphones!
Don’t get me wrong — I’m definitely not knocking the Caldera. It’s a fine headphone and deserves all the praise it gets. If I could own 10 headphones I’d definitely have a Caldera as one of them.- tjkohli

Diana: the second release by Abyss Headphones!
For sure, it’s what makes the Diana so comfortable too. Compared to the Caldera which is a monster, the DZ almost feels like you’re wearing nothing on your head. And yet somehow the DZ sounds way larger, at least soundstage wise.- tjkohli

Diana: the second release by Abyss Headphones!
So just wanted to follow up regarding Caldera. I actually purchased a ZMF Caldera Open and have been A/B testing it with the Diana DZ on both the WA8 and TT2 all day. Here are some findings and random thoughts: The DZ wins in soundstage hands-down. ZMF sounds Utopia-like in comparison. Caldera...- tjkohli

Woo Audio WA-8
Hello everyone! I received my WA8 yesterday and have been auditioning it beside the TT2. Quick question — there is some harshness in the treble. Does that go away as the tubes break in? Also— this thing runs really hot! Like can't hold it for more than 10 seconds hot. But I feel that's normal...- tjkohli

Woo Audio WA-8
It's probably your tubes. They have a set life— you can replace the tubes and most likely your amp will be like-new again! If it's something else, then you probably have a damaged amp that needs repair. You can call Woo support — they'll take great care of you.- tjkohli
