IEM recommendation and what to do with old one

I've got two pairs of Kato and the 7hz original Timeless is really fast for metal but you need a $9 Apple USB to 3.5mm adapter to power them fully, a phone won't do it. The fastest ear buds I've ever heard were the Creative Aurvana Ace 2 I got at Christmas and was one of the first pairs to ship...

    Upgrade for the EA1000

I've got those and the Sennheiser IE600 would fit better and excellent imaging. Dunu S&S tips are longer and might give you a solid fit though. I personally have more fun with the Moondrop Kato or original EA500 than the EA1000. The 7hz original Timeless (not the AE version with its dynamic...

Do solid state amplifiers sound the same ?

A lot of the 120 SINAD amplifiers I have sound almost identical. They use different methods to eliminate distortion but the result is the same. The ones I have and can tell the difference is the SMSL has faster note decay and the Topping stuff is a little fuller or smoother for acoustic...

    IEMs with different sound signatures

There's tutorials on how to read a frequency response chart and learning how things sound on the charts is the most important thing to save time and money shopping online for audio. The ones with a Harman curve tuning are the most popular and versatile. For $25 get the 7hz Crinnacle Zero:2 and...

Buying IEMs from AliExpress or other seemingly random websites?

If you avoid wish.com which are almost all fakes you should be ok. AliExpress has fake "DIY" versions so I wouldn't buy high end stuff there unless it's an established store with great feedback for the item.

Best Dac for 500$ in 2024?

The best value for money is the Topping E50 for 4 volt or the SMSL DO200 Pro which I just got for a 5.2 volt if your amp can handle it without clipping in high gain. The SMSL DO400 is another I like too. It's a 5.2v DAC but has 3 watts into 32ohm and sounds great on its own. If your amp ever...

Used moondrop chu for 11$, is it worth buying?

The 7hz Zero:2 is much better for $25 new. I've had the Chu II and it was bassy but the mids and treble just wasn't with it, the $10 Yincrow X6 was better for vocals if you like ear bud style.

Places where I can get planar dynamic headphones repaired

If you bought them in the last year on Amazon you can get the Asurion warranty for $16 and it covers previous purchases back a year.

    2pin cable

Artti cables are really nice, thick and don't tangle with transparent sound. The multi kit feels more durable than the TRS stuff. The Artti T10 are excellent for bassheads, and worth it just for the cable they come with.

The best IEM for less than $250?

The Moondrop Blessing 2 or 3 are pretty neutral and easy to EQ. If durability is the goal, no IEM is guaranteed to take a drop on a hardwood floor. My strategy is the Yincrow X6 for travel which are neutral and under $10 so I don't stress about it on the road. At home the Moondrop Kato are fun...

Best DAC for Sennheiser HD600 under US$ 500

The SMSL DL200 or C200 are terrific and the Topping DX5 is on sale at drop.com and also a great performer. I've had them all for the business and solid choices.

How do you deal with tangled cables? It’s killing me!

The cables from Artti are tangle proof. I got T10 from them and they were so thick and tangled free. They sell them separately too. The cheap way is black rubber bands from the women's hair care section of a grocery store or even a dollar store. They're small and easy to wind up quickly to...

$200 Audeze LCD 2 from Facebook Marketplace. Real? Fake? Scam?

Yes if they list it in an invoice with PayPal with condition then you both get PayPal buyer and seller protection. Use a credit card to buy though, not a PayPal balance or debit card.

Need help with portable DAC recommendations

The Topping G5 is much better with 120 SINAD and silent noise floor. I've had several G5s for the business and it just beats the Chord. In medium gain it'll power headphones 5.5-6.5 hours and takes 4.5 hours to charge from empty on a fast charger. Aidiosciencereview did measurements on both if...

Which one to choose from these?

Yes they're well rounded with not too much bass or too much treble rolloff. It's one of those moments that you can't believe how inexpensive they are when try them the first time. Less harsh than the VE Monk can be, much better for vocals and acoustic instruments like guitar or violin also. You...

Which one to choose from these?

The Yincrow X6 is a great choice. Vocals like Adele sound terrific and they're 32ohm so they aren't picky about the source. A US version of the $9 Apple USB to 3.5mm adapter will have more power than you'd ever need for any IEM. I plugged the X6 into my phone and it was fully powered though.

High End Cables Thread (digital, analog, power)

Just got an audible improvement switching to an optical USB cable going to my USB hub. The noise floor dropped significantly and everything sounds better as a result. I saw an article from a while back that Archimago did measurements of the Corning optical USB cable running into several USB hubs...

    Looking for advise on DAPs

Soundstage is an effect, mainly by using different tips like the Dunu S&S at the expense of some mid response as they're longer than most stock ones. There's software methods to simulate the effect, but you lose resolution like simulated stereo on gaming sound cards. It's when the IEM has a...

    Sabbat E12 ultra alternative?

I've bought several pairs of Sennheiser Momentum 2 & 3 and would if the limit is $60 I'd get a pair of Momentum 2's on eBay from a seller with good feedback. Fakes abound on wish.com and Mercari (mainly people there bought fakes and knowingly or not unload them there). Treble is never harsh and...

Need recommendations for IEM cable builders that offer great customisation!

I've gotten a lot of stuff from Hart Cables and their custom shop can build to order with their new IEM line of cables. Their first IEM cables were a little thick and puffy, but the new ones are much nicer/slimmer. Audiophileninja are my favorite for headphone cables, but Hart Cables for IEMs.

The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)

Here's some good deals this week from a few different places. None of the eBay listings are mine, I'm Dunring there also, so no conflict of interest. If the Amazon the "sold by" is Hifi-College, Aoshida-US, or SMSL Factory Store they include a 1 year warranty on used items, the same as new...

    Soundblaster AE-9 Issue

I've had several of those. Do you see more than one ASIO driver listed like when you go into selecting output? The one I always pick is the DSD one and works great. Also is the supplemental molex connector which powers the amp in the audio control module hooked up on a single run and not shared...

Looking for a high end wireless headset

Many wireless headphones have an online mic for that. My two favorites are the Sennheiser Momentum 4 and Bower & Wilkins PX7 Carbon. 2- Pin IEM Cable w/Mic Recommendations

They're all transparent unless defective with cables. The mic on them isn't bad, much better than the pinhole ones on the cable that never faces the right way when moving around. They just do need a little $1 bag of pop filters. I like the ones that come in a 6ft length, if that has the...
