It's not a comparision. The HD800S is a better headphone. But bang for the buck? 99% of humanity would be super happy with the 6XX, that's why drop has sold 200k of them. Plus there whatever hundred of thousands senn has sold.

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

You can read about the Jot on the schiit website. Fully Balanced, discrete, preamp functionality, modular upgardes, a bunch of trickle down tech from schiit's higher end stuff. And lots of marketing buzz words like the one's you used. It doesn't matter. You already bought the score one, and love...

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

The question is whether or not the price in today's market is justified. Having heard the Jotunheim 2, I can say that it is also an excellent amplifier. Plus schiit are much more transparent about the amplifier specifications... It's a very competitive market.

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

The question is about the price. You can get a Jotunheim, power for nearly any headphone, similiar topology (discrete, class AB) and really excellent sound. Designed by some of the best people in the industry. It costs about a third the price. Plus option to have a built-in multibit dac or...

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

In today's uber expensive, ever increasing prices, you have a point. But just maaaybe the drop 6xx when you can get it around 200 USD might be the best buy. And then there are the entry level iems where for less then a 100 bucks you get a taste of hifi. But of course, for high end headphones...

I saw the tour. Neither of them ever topped that album. Although Richard made tone of great music since.

I am partial to anyone who likes Linda Thompson. She couldn't perform live for decades. But what a beautiful voice...

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.

I wonder how much of it was dependent on the music? I got to control tidal and played all my usual tracks, some I have been using for demos for more than two decades...

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.

I have often wondered if the amp was the problem with my Shang Sr. audition since so many people like it. I found it too aggressive with a slightly off tonality and not engaging at all. It was a good headphone, but compared to the Sus and the HE1, nah. But it was interesting that according to...

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.

I have only heard the Shang Sr. on the Hifiman amp ( i have no doubt that on other setups YMMV). But having spent several quiet hours with that setup and the Susvara on a Riveria AC10, it was not even a contest. I thought the Sus was clearly better, the tonality and especially the delicacy of...

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

Yes, but that doesn't help me now. I often take my composer from the country to the city and vice versa. The case I am using has been excellent. You could even step on the case and the odds are really good that the composer survives. It certainly has stood up to being inside a tightly packed...

In fact, most of my listening time is at lower volumes. The compoers is great for this. I never feel like "where did the bass go or why did the music sound so dark when i turned the volume down."

What was wrong with the one I poseted earlier? I have been using it for months. The composer fits perfectly, and the cable fits in the bag that attaches to the inside of the case.

    AÜR AUDIO IEMs

I think this made sense for relatively inexpensive iems. But now when you are well into the kilobuck range it think it's a bit much to say well we are keeping the price down. When I spend over a kilobuck I like to feel that the manufacturer totally has my back...

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

Most music today is at least in part and often times only mixed and mastered on headphones. There are all these young people with computers making music in their bedroom with a pair of headphones, some of them make super popular music. But that ethos has spread almost everywhere. Now a days even...

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

I have an earlier version of Meier's crossfeed implementation. He gave a three level switch to address the problem with bass. On the corda soul I would guess, as he used the HD800S in it's development, the results with the HD800S are excellent. Look forward to your review. OTOH I am someone who...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

You really don't have the best gear for the HD800. But if you want more bass, then use eq rather than trying to eq the headphone by changing amps. But the treble peak is mostly mitigated by the SDR mod. It's easily reversible. The HD800S sounds very similar, so if you want to find out what the...

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

I haven't heard all the different implementations of crossfeed, but many of them substantially change the bass response. Sometimes that's even a good thing. Jan Meier wrote about this bass effect someplace years ago. He has implemented different strategies to mitigate this, but in the end it is...
