Comment by 'chrisnyc75' on listing 'Vintage (1940s) Sylvania 6SN7 GT w/ riser'
Bumping for last chance.... If this doesn't sell soon I'm taking it offline until it becomes unobtainium and I can get a lot more for it.- chrisnyc75

HiFiMan Susvara
Here's the thing: pricing a new flagship at $8k wouldn't make any sense at all unless it is markedly BETTER sonically than Susvara. For $8K you can get Susvara AND a comparably totl amp capable of driving it. Very few people complain about Susvara's sound, it's the power requirement that...- chrisnyc75

Interesting, but recent events with Focal, Meze, & Audeze suggest you should approach with skepticism. Newer isn't always better. I mean, other than making it more sensitive for better amp compatibility, what could they really improve?- chrisnyc75

High current, you say? Let me talk to you about tubes...... After demoing DCS a few times in the past few years I've come to understand that DCS's magic is that it really does sound different than anything else out there. There's really something to their ring dac technology. Now...- chrisnyc75

Also, it is not unfair to say that at least half the value of HE-1 is in the materials & presentation alone. HE-1 and its marble chassis and mechanized tube compliment are designed to evoke a feeling that you are experiencing something beyond anything else. But is the listening experience...- chrisnyc75

Totally subjective. The popular answer would be "of course not". But many of us feel that our carefully curated audio chain + Susvara matches or exceeds HE-1.- chrisnyc75

That's not a Millenial thing, TWS just offer convenience that's hard to argue with. Also, as a city dweller, TWS noise cancelling more than makes up for anything they lack in resolution and tuning quality. But we digress.- chrisnyc75

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, then I suppose there's probably no harm in leaving it on indefinitely? Although, I'm not an electrical engineer by any measure, but leaving a Class A device on permanently seems like a recipe for that device to wear out sooner than otherwise. Sooner or later the constant...- chrisnyc75

HiFiMan Susvara
Everyone's ears are different and we all have different preferences, but I tend to echo psy472 that Susvara itself has no inherent sharpness - and I would add brightness, sibilance, & stridency. Susvara perfectly resolves whatever you feed it, so if you don't like what you're hearing there's a...- chrisnyc75

ZMF Caldera - New Planar Magnetic from ZMF!
The longer I'm in this hobby the more I believe the adage "trust your own ears." :) Personally, I fell in love with the thick pads as soon as I tried them, until I swapped quickly between Caldera w/ thick pads and Susvara, and then Caldera+thick sounded thick and veiled. Went back to the stock...- chrisnyc75

No, fully ON it eats up too much power (you'll feel it in your electricity bill). Leave it in standby mode and then turn it ON 20-30 minutes before use for best results.- chrisnyc75

To anyone who isn't intimately familiar with Susvara this probably makes no sense. But as a Susvara owner, I know exactly what you mean. This is perhaps my favorite thing about Susvara. But would I miss it if I could have more of everything else? TBD.- chrisnyc75

ZMF Spring Limiteds, CanJam NYC and Estimated Release Schedule for Caldera Closed and BOKEH Open!
Nice! I've only ordered 2 ZMFs - one back when they did the email every step of the way thing, and once during last year's ZMF November, when one could not reasonably expect anything but a confirmation of shipping email. I love to hear that under normal circumstances there is still a...- chrisnyc75

I am a big proponent of having multiple options at my disposal. I think if you have just one of anything, no matter how great it is, you will soon become accustomed to it and forget just how good it is. Audio is all about variance from a baseline, so having 2 things that contrast each other is...- chrisnyc75

HiFiMan Susvara
...environment not well suited for analytical evaluation, and anecdotal reports from the few people who have had it in hand for in-home demo so far seem to be that its bass is *at least* on par with Susvara or 1266 or better. I'm intrigued enough that I've put my name on the list for a demo unit.- chrisnyc75

ZMF Spring Limiteds, CanJam NYC and Estimated Release Schedule for Caldera Closed and BOKEH Open!
That was a thing a few years ago before ZMF blew up into the behemoth that it is today. I don't think Zack & co could support that level of personal service with the volume of sales they have now. Today, you get an estimated delivery time and you just have to wait. And by "wait" I mean post...- chrisnyc75

RAAL 1995 Immanis
Wow, those are some REALLY big claims. In any case, I don't see any of that as a "different beast" than Susvara at all, rather just a bit more of everything, perhaps? If this is true, I suspect it would be my endgame. Sell the rest, and live happily ever after. :) Which, frankly, sounds too...- chrisnyc75

DNA Stellaris
Yeah, I really can't explain it, but I'm thinking it has to do with the voltage output of my DAC plus the beefy output transformers of Stellaris? Try as I might, I can't hear anything but perfection with the pairing. Dare I say I even PREFER Susvara on Stellaris vs Bliss? Blasphemy, I know...- chrisnyc75

So, 1) I think this is a really cool idea, but also 2) I think this is sort of what the limited edition program already is. I can tell you from personal experience if you just wait and watch, sooner or later your dream ZMF will become a Ltd Ed release. And that is just SOOOOOOOOO satisfying. ;)- chrisnyc75

HiFiMan Susvara
I know this thread isn't for music sharing, but I can't help myself. This album sounds spectacular on Susvara - it is flawlessly recorded and mastered, and coupled with Susvara's magic, it really sounds like you're onstage in the middle of a live performance.- chrisnyc75
