The NEMA 5-15P cables from Monoprice I posted earlier are 14AWG (much thicker than most stock cable), and with the added benefit of length options that help to reduce your cabling clutter.

    Schiit Audio Bifrost 2

As a geek, I actually found that interesting. I didn't know about DevCon (not to be confused with ComicCon, SantaCon, etc. :o2smile:). Unfortunately, it isn't something that automatically keeps a device connected. It's more like you notice something is disconnected and you can manually run a...

Why so many bluetooth only headphones?

A reason for "why so many" is the ease and low cost of implementing bluetooth. Headphone manufacturers can use off-the-shelf chipsets that combine bluetooth receiver, dac, and headphone amp. Some chipsets even have integrated noise cancellation circuit. Furthermore these chipsets are optimized...

4.4mm balanced cable to 3.5mm stereo adapter(s) only left channel works, why?

The description says "4.4mm Balanced Female to 3.5mm Balanced Male with OCC wire". However, the photo doesn't match the description. The photo shows a single-ended 3.5mm plug (2 black rings). Balanced 3.5mm is rare and I think the description is probably wrong. If that was the case, the adapter...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Years ago (okay, actually many decades ago :)), Boeing offered me an engineering job in Seattle after only a brief on-campus interview at school. That was very strange (other companies would also arrange an interview at the job location). I ended up in Silicon Valley instead, but it was...

    Tidal Lossless Streaming

That is normal and expected. In exclusive mode, the source music stream should be transferred directly to USB output (bit-perfect without modification). Volume control on both the Tidal app and computer should not modify the digital stream; therefore volume controls should be disabled. I don't...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Because of low sales? The lack of discussion here about D/S Gungnir suggests that very few bought the D/S version. Besides, D/S Gungnir owners already have an upgrade option – to Multibit for $500.

    Soekris Audiophile Line DACs 1541, 1421, 1321, 1101

This is off-topic, but I'll leave this final comment. A DAC chip can be either delta-sigma or R2R. R2R is a circuit design. It can be implemented on an integrated chip or as discrete components.

I received a reply from Tidal customer support. Signing up for the Best Buy one-year subscription requires using an inactive account, or creating a new account. For myself, I plan to cancel my current monthly subscription (it will remain active for a couple of more weeks until my renewal date)...

Not the case for this deal. It can be a previously used email, as long as it isn't currently active. I've opened a customer support ticket with Tidal about this issue. The limitation isn't mentioned on either the Best Buy site or the FAQ page on Tidal, and as a policy it doesn't make sense.

    Radsone EarStudio ES100

If you look through this thread, you'll find lots of complaints about what happens when you plug/unplug the power. It may power up, power down, or reboot in unexpected ways. While you are actively listening, expect that plugging or unplugging the power will not be a seamless experience and your...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The CCA was $35. The Modi 3 is $99 and "lowly" Modi Multibit a whopping $249. Why is the CCA's DAC being compared? The best use of the CCA would be to feed its optical output into one of the Modis.

    Radsone EarStudio ES100

There is no straight answer. Everybody agrees that the ES100 cannot drive the HD650 with the authority of a good desktop amp, but each person has a different view about whether it is "good enough" for them. Have you tried the HD650 on the ES100's 3.5mm output? If you don't have a 3.5mm headphone...

Can I/How do I paint a Schiit Amp?

Plasti Dip is a good way to start because it is completely reversible. It's like a rubberized coating and if you don't like the results, it can be peeled off. With standard spray painting, you won't be able to restore it back to the original factory finish. These are the Plasti Dip colors in...
