Thankfully in audio price/performance isn't linear, and diminishing returns hit hard at or around the $1500-$2000 mark. Anything above that is high-end in my book.

You heard it here first folks: $2,500 is now mid-fi. RIP wallets everywhere!

Which goes to my point that many IEMs' performance very much depends on volume. If you're not a low volume listener and the IEM sucks at higher volume, you'd want to know that. But likewise if you are a low volume listener and the IEM has no dynamics or poor resolution unless it's cranked up...

You're right, basic venting is more for the driver. But no venting is even worse. And ear venting (Atom, Apex etc.) is the most ideal.

Because you're moving air inside a sealed cavity and it has nowhere to go, putting excess strain on your eardrum. This is especially true with dynamic drivers, but is also true of other driver types.

I have and I can't hear any noise even with the likes of Rn6 and N8 (both low ohm hybrids). But... 1) I don't use ultra sensitive IEMs in principle and 2) my tinnitus is louder than any faint amp noise at any given point, so my tolerance for 'minor' hissing is probably much higher than many.

This is true - to a point. There's safe listening time for even louder volume levels (I think it's 2-3 hours at 80-85dB). So as long as you take regular breaks and don't listen too loud, you can easily prolong your ear health. What's less healthy, for example, is pressurised IEMs without any...

So true, I know several people who listen at low volumes, and when I try listen at those volumes I just don't get it. Even accounting for my mild hearing loss, the volume some people listen at is basically a whisper to me. If I wanted to listen to people whispering with faint instrument sounds...

I'll put it another way - I don't find music emotionally engaging until it's a certain volume level. That level is probably 'normal' for me, but given I have some mild hearing loss, likely 'loud' for others. Then again, I generally listen at 75-85dB, which I consider normal to slightly above...

Not at all. It's just that warm/smooth/full sound generally isn't the focus of detail monster IEMs like Ragnar that go for maximum detail extraction. Z1R is a slight exception in that it's more clarity-focused and definitely isn't warm/thick in the traditional sense (like Nio/N8 or Xe6 for...

You and me both. It also helps when treble isn't piercing and vocals aren't shouty at that point, which is why I tend to prefer warmer, smoother IEMs to detail monsters.

Just been doing some pondering about the whole 'reproducing the live experience' thing with audio gear. Decibel levels at an average live event regularly hit 100dB. At a rave or EDM concert, up to 120dB. There's just no way we're recreating anything approaching the live experience at low...

Every time I even think of flexing I remind myself there are folks on here that buy Patek Philippe watches for fun and drive around in cars worth more than my house. 😅 The only thing I flex nowadays are the drivers on my LX. Speaking of which... ...still one of the greatest IEMs ever made...

    Elysian Annihilator 2023

Can't believe I'm saying this but I think it's a great buy at full retail. Anni 23 has enough going for it to make it one of the best IEMs on the market today, and if you consider some of its 'competitors' cost $1000, $2000, and even $3000 more, you could even argue Anni is good value at its...

It's a good case...but same issue with the cutout and big 4.4mm cables. Seems none of these cases are being tested with larger connectors at the design stage. Let's see which buttons I can push next 😜 Tip: only slide the bottom section off. Works in a pinch. But yeah, someone call Dignis please!
