Tight 16 vs. Sloppy 24 bit
I found this article tremendously helpful in understanding the science, history, and development of sample rates: https://sonicscoop.com/2016/02/19/the-science-of-sample-rates-when-higher-is-better-and-when-it-isnt/ Also, coming from a pro audio vs. audiophile background gives me a solid...- Dodeca

You're 100% right, Brooko. I've taken down my more... ornery... replies. Q5 is a great bit of kit, shoulda left it at that. :)- Dodeca

Hey Fiio! Just stumbled on this thread... I picked up the Q5 the other week on a whim, as I needed to re-tool my mobile sound setup. I have to say, I really love this unit. I hadn't done a lot of research on the unit beforehand, but it's turning out to be a real Swiss-army knife for me...- Dodeca

I'm a total creeper around here and have been for years, but this statement made me laugh out loud enough to prompt a reply. USB is passing a digital signal to the DAC. There is no appreciable sonic difference between USB cables. Any difference heard is placebo.- Dodeca

Yeah, I have my options set up so that if I post in a thread, it automatically adds it to my 'subscribed threads' folder, without the hassle of having to click thread tools -> subscribe -> email notification options. Figured it out when I saw a couple of other head-fi'ers doing it.- Dodeca

For curiosity's sake, if it's true 4-way, then which drivers are doubled up and which remain single?- Dodeca

Ah. I had read the phrase "... plus, three separate acoustically tuned sound channels allow us to keep frequencies separate and balanced until they blend naturally in your ear" on the UE website to mean that it was a 3-way crossover.- Dodeca

Though you have to wonder what the improvement on SQ is going to be from even 3 -> 6 drivers, let alone 6 -> 8. I think the next big jump will be a true 4-way crossover, as all the current super high-end models are still 3-way, no?- Dodeca

Been waiting for these to come out before I pull the trigger on a set of customs. I'm looking to use them as a solution for mobile audio production (breakbeat, house, hiphop instrumentals) whilst away from home, as well as for on-stage monitoring for live PA/DJ sets. I'm wondering if...- Dodeca

Westone 3 Impressions Thread
Bought a pair of UM3X's from a distributor here in Canada and accidentally got sent the W3's instead. With the box sitting there in front of me, I couldn't bring myself to send them back and have to wait a few more days to get on the aural gravy train. So I opened them and tried 'em on. My...- Dodeca

Coming from Triple Fi/ IE8, what next? UM3x or Westone 3?
Hey Fooey, I came to Westone from the Triple Fi's... couldn't decide between the Westone 3 and UM3X; ended up getting them both in the last month. I have to pretty much agree with everything mvw2 has said -- his impressions are right on the money. Personally, I prefer the UM3X and they...- Dodeca

Recommend linear IEMs for music production
I'm into music production (breakbeat, house, instrumental hiphop) and used UE Triple Fi for when I was away from the studio + also for DJing. They gave me the whole freq range and were neutral enough for my purposes which mainly consisted of a few hours here and there out of the studio. I...- Dodeca
