hopefully the remote is there, and you removed the batteries before boxing it up. I found an extra Samsung blu-ray player a few weeks back that was boxed up years ago, but it has only HDMI / 3x RCA Component Analog Video, toslink out, BUT NO COAXIAL S/PDIF :scream: Same for the...

perhaps heat the water reservoir portion using a sous vide system instead of applying heat via a burner (control the bath temperature) for more consistent brewing. or will the rate be too slow?

my $0.02: with kids planned, don't go overboard on electronics (damage and accidents are inevitable, something called the "terrible-twos"). Mainstream receivers get replaced by new models every one or two years (CES january product intros), but typically just add more bells and whistles, while...

yes, cool idea about re-purposing the coaxial cabling already installed. I remember the early days of LAN networks, before Cat 3, 5 etc. when the cabling consisted of coaxial wire (RG-59, RG-6, etc) and end-of-line termination resistors, etc.

congrats on your Unison installation. Hope you don't have any spare parts or screws after completing the re-assemby. :) my $0.02: the Unison board, as far as I know, has some conductive polymer electrolytic capacitors on the back side, next to the header pins. The component data sheets...

FYI Jason has confirmed on the main thread that a new product is ready for launch sometime next week. Hope its the Transport. Presumably, something different from existing products as Jason wants to be available for answering questions, and didn't want Alex to get slammed. :L3000:

i'm currently using an NS500V SACD player via coax S/PDIF to a Bifrost MB OG which works when playing 2-channel SACD's as well. (DSD 2.8 is the same bitrate as 16/44, so its performing some sort of conversion, maybe clocking the DSD stream into a 16-bit counter and outputting a sample at 44.1...

yes, the denon lasers had a tendency to fail after a few years, unfortunately. The Pioneer DV-45 and others turned out to be better choices for use with external DAC's because of higher reliability.

try Dvorak's 9th (New World Symphony). I have a decca / london "ddd" CD recorded Oct 1984, CD copyright 1986, Von Dohnanyi, Cleveland Orchestra. IMO, the massed string sections have more 'air' on D/S (stock output of Denon DVD-2910 before it stopped reading CD's), but the imaging (both...

Schiit offers both D/S and Multibit DAC's, and IMO they sound different, with some preferring Multibit, others preferring D/S. the keepers are there, you just don't see them on the sales forums. :)

Consider a Bifrost multibit (OG) with Gen 5 or Bifrost 2 instead for about the same cost as a Gungnir Multibit upgrade. Bifrost 2 has the LME49724 differential balanced amp, the 8x filter like Gungnir MB (Bifrost MG OG is 4x) and the same family AD5781 DAC chip as Gungnir MB. If you are...

after the recent "upgrades" of site by Head-Fi, some older browsers (e.g. internet explorer) cut off text (instead of scrolling horizontally or wrapping around), and emoji's don't work correctly. had to switch to MS Edge (now using a chrome engine) to make the emoji's work :slight_frown:

The Gadget was envisioned as a digital audio processor (pitch shifting without changing tempo, and a few other functions), a dynamic range expander, that would require the development of sufficiently powerful and energy efficient CPU's. Not sure if the current CPU chips on the market meet the...
