The TOPPING LA90 Discrete Power Amp is Now Available on Apos Audio

Yeah. If this device had a remote control, that would have pushed it over the line for me as being useable as an integrated amp. That said, you're not wrong. There are plenty of integrated amps that don't have remote controls…especially in the previous century.

Looks amazing, but how is this different from the original version?

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

That could be a while. Roon Labs does not update the Bridge code very often. The Roon Ready firmware seems to work well. However, @iFi audio has not (yet?) implemented DSP volume in their implementation of Roon's SDK. So, if you were depending on DSP volume for your zone, you're better off...

I recall having similar problems too, but switching to a different COAX S/PDIF cable solved the issue. Which cable are you using? I've had good luck with this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00287BNKE/

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

With some apprehension, I updated my ZEN Stream to v2.31.7 this morning. As the public documentation has not been updated, I'm glad that I made a copy of the release notes, including the new LED colors legend: Thanks to feedback in this group, I had no problems finding the option to configure...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

If you have a digital multimeter, please measure the voltage of the power supply. Insert the positive probe in the center of the barrel connector and touch the negative probe to the coller while the meter is set to DC mode. You should see a rating that's above 9V. And, it should stay above 9V...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

When it stops, what do you have to do to get it going again? In my case, the unit initially would run for three or four hours and then die…required me to disconnect power to get it going again. The issue turned out to be a bad power supply. Your situation could be this, or it could be...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

I would drop all mentions of Roon Ready from your website immediately. Simply state that the ZEN Stream is 100% compatible with Roon. The only potential legal issue you have with Roon Labs is if you are shipping the product with Roon Bridge pre-installed. That's a no-no, as it violates Roon...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Well, we have reviewers literally saying that Roon functionality is not available, so I imagine so. In fact, iFi Audio's own website is equally misleading: Honestly, I did not know for sure if Roon would work with the ZEN Stream at the time I purchased it, but I bought from MusicDirect...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

My comment was rejected because it was too long (thanks, head-fi). So I'll share my feedback here, if you don't mind. Nice work on this review. I do have feedback on a few inaccuracies or, least, differences in your experience vs mine: I'm a Roon user, so my ZEN Stream is almost always set...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Current state…about as simple as it gets. I have one iPower X 5V feeding the Khadas Tone2 Pro DAC and another iPower X on the ZEN Stream. Truly a delight while streaming from Roon. <3

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

I have a question for @iFi audio about the ZEN Stream. There seems to be a lot of consternation about the yet to be delivered "Roon Ready" functionality that is still mentioned on the product page: My understanding of the Roon Ready process is that it requires a manufacturer to work with Roon...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

It depends on the rest of your system. If you're using Roon or HQPlayer, a streamer enables you to move heavy-duty processing to some remote location that's far from your listening room. In that case, a streamer, like the ZEN Stream, may be a significant upgrade to both experience and sound...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

I upgraded from stock to the iFi iPower X. Love it. I know some folks have had better experience with Sbooster and other LPS options, but I don't see how. The iPower X is pretty sweet. The extra current capacity and greater output capacitance seems to help especially when using the ZEN Stream...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Not a hardware issue, but it could be a software limitation. I use both USB and S/PDIF all of the time from within Roon. That functionality may not be available for other use cases.

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Sounds like you may have a bad 9V power supply. Do you have a voltmeter you can use to check? @Sebastien Chiu and @iFi audio have been great at helping folks if they find that the provided power supply is defective.

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

If you're happy with how things sound, don't change a thing. Everyone has different sound quality requirements. I find local files sound poor compared to Audirvana and Roon. I have no affiliation with Audirvana or Roon Labs. Just offering suggestions on how to get the best sound out of the ZEN...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Playing local files works, but, IMHO. that's not what this device is for. It works because the OS image is based on Volumio, but the ZEN Stream is a streamer, not a media server. You will get better sound streaming to it via DLNA from Audirvana or BubbleUPnP. Better sound still streaming via...

The crazy thing is that the Linux kernel on the ZEN Stream detects the hardware capabilities of the DAC (in this case, the NEO iDSD): volumio@ifi-zen-stream:/proc/asound/Audio$ cat /proc/asound/Audio/stream0 iFi (by AMR) iFi (by AMR) HD USB Audio at usb-xhci-hcd.0.auto-1.4, high speed : USB...

Yeah. I just retested DSD512 and PCM 705.6 after the V2.28 firmware update. I'm streaming from Roon to the iFi NEO iDSD, connected to the ZEN Stream via an iFi Mercury cable. This should be a supported configuration, but same result.: 07/28 11:53:47 Info: [iFi NEO iDSD] [zoneplayer] Playing...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Sadly, that is not the case. Anything above PCM 384 is rejected. Same for DSD512 and even DSD256 in DoP mode. I have not been able to work out why this limitation exists, but it does. For example, Roon will detect that your Gustard X16 is capable of 32-bits, 768 kHz; however, when you try to...

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

The ZEN Stream does have a dedicated mode for HQPlayer NAA. It's switch position 4. While I don't have HQPlayer to test, I have verified that the only audio related process running in "NAA only" mode is: /usr/sbin/networkaudiod While I can't verify that the 384 kHz limit exists in this mode, I...
