While I agree that Pi2AES is substantially expensive, and I grit my teeth every time I buy one, it is worth its cost in my opinion. I have the 2 clock, transformer isolated HiFiBerry Digi boards and after using Pi2AES, they are relegated to stocking stuffers.

I would not used Solid State Drives for the Backups though. The transistors can lose the states over time. Rotating plater drives are better for backup
