    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

@JTbbb Have you gotten a chance to listen to the GE 6BQ5’s in your Aegis yet? They remain one of the best output tubes I’ve tried. As a matter of fact, I’ve got them in right now!

    ZMF Atrium Closed

I don’t listen to metal, but I do own the Elite and AC. I find these two to be satisfyingly different. It’s great to have a high-end planar as well as a high-end dynamic. It’s also convenient to have one open-back and one closed-back. They both sound amazing on my ZMF Aegis, so I have gone from...

The (Un)Official Amp Thread For ZMF Headphones

The only amp not mentioned in this short list of tube amps under $2K is the Quicksilver. I had it for years and loved it. I know it had no problem driving any of my ZMF’s or even my Mod House Argon. I know someone that loves their Tungsten on it as well. At the price you can get one of these...

    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

That makes sense now that I think about it. I got these EL38's NOS, so they may only have 20 or so hours on them at this point. Maybe they have just started to turn blue.

    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

I guess I’ve never listened to the Aegis in a completely dark room until tonight. These EL38’s glow blue way more than I realized.

I always come back to the 5R4GY as well. I tried a Mullard GZ34, Chatham 5R4WGA, Brimar 5Y3GT as well as the stock Sovtek. This 1940’s model of the RCA JAN 5R4GY with the dark brown base and slanted double-D bottom getters seems to beat them all, at least to my ears.

I’ve got some more hours on the NOS Mullard EL38’s now, and I think they have really come into their own. They are quickly becoming my favorite again. Deep, articulate bass coupled with super-realistic mids and clear treble with zero fatigue. On top of that, I’m also getting excellent imaging...

    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

My niece just graduated from high school, and I decided to get her a really nice graduation gift. Whenever she comes to visit us she always loves to come listen to my headphone setup. She is going into a music composition and production program at my alma mater this fall, so I wanted her to have...

Agreed. "XLR high" is the sweet spot for the AC.

    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

I just had a “wow” moment with the Aegis and Atrium Closed. I was listening to my “Test Tracks” playlist and a familiar song popped up: The bass texture I was hearing at the beginning of the track was off-the-charts good. Not sure what to attribute it to specifically, but this is the best I’ve...

The (Un)Official Amp Thread For ZMF Headphones

The Aegis is ticking all the boxes for me with the 3 headphones I regularly switch between (Atrium Closed, OG Auteur and Meze Elite). Since this is the ZMF amp thread, I’ll focus on the AC and Auteur. I’ve recently discovered my distinct preference for the 85-ohm high impedance setting of the...

Does the XLR have more treble? Is this common knowledge on the Aegis?

    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

It really might be a difference in bass impact specifically. I'm going to do some more experimenting and see if I can focus on the bass impact using both headphone jacks at different output impedances. The bass impact of the Atrium Closed was a bit too much for me with the stock Caldera Thin...

    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

Is there any explanation for why I’m finding the XLR output less bass-heavy than the 6.35mm output when using the high-impedance setting with my Atrium Closed? I assumed the 85-ohm XLR output was going to be more “bassy” than the 31-ohm 6.35mm output. Long story short, I really like the 85-ohm...

Schiit Magni Unity - Impressions Thread

Got confirmation from Schiit that they do indeed provide a USB-A to USB-C cable if you get a Magni Unity with the DAC card. I went ahead and ordered a $6 cable from Amazon today in case the included cable is too short. My niece will be starting her Head-Fi journey with a Magni Unity and HD6XX...

Looks like it can go either way with included cables. I think I’ll go ahead and email Schiit to be sure. I’ll report back on what they say. Thanks for the responses!

MEZE AUDIO ELITE - The New Isodynamic Hybrid Array Headphone - official thread

I totally agree with his conclusion. The Elite really is the whole package (sound, comfort, and design) once you find the right gear synergy. My recent upgrade to the ZMF Aegis from the Mjolnir 3 has brought the Elite to another level of performance. It’s the perfect contrast to my Atrium...

Schiit Magni Unity - Impressions Thread

Did everyone that bought a Magni Unity with the DAC card get a USB A to USB C cable included with the unit? I’m buying this as a gift for my niece and want to make sure she’ll have everything she needs in the box.

I couldn’t resist, I bought a back-up 1940’s RCA JAN 5R4GY with the slanted double-D getters. It’s by far my favorite rectifier I’ve tried in the Aegis. Thanks again @DenverW for selling me my first one! Brent Jessee talks these up quite a bit on his website and sells them for $200 each, but...

    ZMF Aegis Official Thread

I’m really loving my OG Auteur using the XLR jack and the “High” output impedance setting (85-ohms) on the Aegis. It does something particularly special to the Auteur that makes me really glad I kept these headphones. Vocals are so amazing with this combo!
