I always come back to the 5R4GY as well. I tried a Mullard GZ34, Chatham 5R4WGA, Brimar 5Y3GT as well as the stock Sovtek. This 1940’s model of the RCA JAN 5R4GY with the dark brown base and slanted double-D bottom getters seems to beat them all, at least to my ears.

I’m really loving my OG Auteur using the XLR jack and the “High” output impedance setting (85-ohms) on the Aegis. It does something particularly special to the Auteur that makes me really glad I kept these headphones. Vocals are so amazing with this combo!
