Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Quick update on Aegir 2: launching next week, as planned. Not early. Sorry.

Fortunately or unfortunately, no. We're selling cards now. They used to be trade-in. You get your old cards back if you send it in to us. Once the OG cards are gone (sometime in spring), they're gone. In the meantime, MIB is doing very, very well.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Hey all, Just a quick announcement: Yggdrasil More is Better is now available as an upgrade. No, it's not inexpensive. Nor are the DACs. Enjoy! With any luck, I should be able to announce Aegir 2 a bit early. Cross your fingers! All the best, Jason

At the heat death of the universe: nothing, and an Yggdrasil.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Hey all, Just a brief moment to note the passing of the Yggdrasil OG. It has gone into the ether, after one of the longest DAC runs in history. If you missed it, and still want one, I suspect a couple will end up on B-Stock. If you want something with the same D/A converters, the Yggdrasil...

Exact same one that's in Ragnarok.

Biased lower. Runs cooler. Like Tyr. We learned how to make Continuity more efficient.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

We usually buy the PCBs and send to the assemblers, but sometimes they buy the boards themselves. We always supply the kit to the assemblers, we don't buy turnkey boards. For those confused by the terminology, there are many ways to skin the PCB assembly cat: 1. Turnkey. We tell the contract...

Nowhere near the same thing. 2X more active output devices in Aegir 2, and much less chance of it going into protection. Plus all the little tweaks.

Good point. Damping factor will be "normal," as in, about 100 or so, when run mono. There's no great way to do Halo with balanced outputs, because you're effectively playing with positive feedback, which can get, ah, scary.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

2024, Chapter 2 Jason’s Law I’ve joked about “Jason’s Law” recently, which is simply: Any date I give is wrong. As in, ask me when something will ship. I’ll make a guess, based on my currently available knowledge…and I’ll be wrong. Sometimes by a week, sometimes a month, sometimes a whole lot...

On some products, yes. On the headphone amp products...not so much.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Oh and by the way, I'm listening to a headphone output we just threw into an upcoming product as a "convenience outlet." You know, like Kara. And seriously, this is crazy good. Of course I am biased. But it does get me wondering where the floor is these days. Certainly much higher than when we...

Re cats: perhaps we should have used this on the Folkvangr heat warning screen: Seriously, no ill will towards cats or children--we'd rather they be safe. And I think this makes the heat issue real clear???

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Guys, a small ask: can we try not to turn this thread into troubleshooting central? I mean, let me know if you can't get ahold of support, etc, but I'd really rather not have this be consumed by troubleshooting. And yeah, I know, I need to post more. Maybe a chapter on Aegir 2 this week. Also...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

This is a great question, but it touches on the "questions that shall not be asked," or "things that shall never be said," in audio. I need to do a chapter on this someday (soon), because I have lost much patience with "thou shalt nots" here. But to answer your question somewhat more...

Fair enough. We'll talk to our distributor about spreading misinformation.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Again, technically it won't do anything. You're literally feeding an internal switching supply (that you have no access to change the characteristics of) with the output of another switching supply. You could do the same from a $5,000 LPS and it won't do anything either. Not technically. The...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Technically this won't do anything, since it's going through a switching supply anyway. But if it makes you happy, there you go.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I deleted some posts spreading rumors about how "we're all down with COVID." In short, no. We have had a few people out for various reasons (including regular old flu and COVID), as I mentioned in an update a while back, but production continues apace in Texas and California.

Probably right around the time we start shipping. I'm pretty sure we'll have some Aegirs available for a while after Aegir 2 launches.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Hey all, With respect to Aegir 2, we may see it by the end of the month. Boards are in-house, chassis are in-house, just waiting on assembly time. We're slammed with demand for other products, as well as getting caught up on Mjolnir 3, and we're still down a couple of guys due to illness...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

If you've had two failures like this with two separate units, I'd wonder if there is a problem with your AC. A surge across the line could conceivably take out the Schottky bridge. Because we haven't seen excessive failures of this product, and two in one location is suspicious. In any case...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I won't go so far as to say "this is incorrect," but I will say, "that is not my experience," and that many audio disagreements can be avoided by saying "in my opinion," rather than painting with a broad brush as if it is absolute truth.
