Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

This is serendipitous. I was just about to post in this thread asking for feedback on H2 with HE1000SE and Utopia headphones! They are on my short list for a purchase. I've currently got a great H2 based system, HD800 (SDR mod) & Heimdall 2, M scaler & Wave BNC. It's wonderful and insightful...

The Altmann Tera Player - Thread

Yeah. SD CARDS are cheap these days. I have a few in a small camera case although I find that I use one 128GB card filled with my favourite albums on random shuffle most of the time. Loving the TP with Mr Speakers Aeon Closed. It's my go-to portable set up (non tidal anyway).

Does anyone use a SOtM sCLK-OCX10 master clock (via SOtM 200ultra or neo) as a source for their mscaler? If so does it make a big difference? I watched the video below and it got me itching......

Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

Hugo 2 / mscaler are singing tonight and I'm feeling grateful for the advice / suggestions and opinions in this forum. Thanks to everyone for your shared experiences and especially @ray-dude (numerous chats and experience sharing) and @musickid (specifically for the initial optical source...

Agree. Also can't RF noise can be induced into any wire even if it is at a low level? We all love our WIFI...

@musickid This made me laugh out loud. I wasn't sure where you were going until the last paragraph.... Agree with your conclusion. I'm not slow to sell hifi that I don't love or need. Mscaler is staying in my setup.

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Heads up. After @ray-dude published his latest write up (great BTW) I decided to experiment with RFI filtering AC multiplugs. I had Tacima Power Conditioning multiplug (£29 on Amazon) into which I plug in my Mscaler (original SMPS), Hugo 2 (Sbooster BOTW 5v powered) and my Roon Endpoint...

The Altmann Tera Player - Thread

Agreed. Can't find anything to beat the Tera for portable audio since owning. I'd love to try some modified porta pros. I've tried (and ruined) 3 pairs whilst trying to mod them myself. Ade

This is extraordinary IMO. I have listened to and enjoyed more music with Mscaler, H2 and Wave Cables in the past 7 months because of this exact thing.

Hi Ray, I'm now also using audiolinux and a NUC but with optical connection to my HMS. I already have an LPS 1.2 but would you recommend USB via ISO regen over optical? Ade

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Agree. It's an amazing combo. Especially via Ethernet and with a good power supply (both improvements). I'm still waiting for my NUC to arrive but am looking forward to seeing how that compares (audiolinux / toslink). It'll have to be pretty special to beat Chromecast / Roon though.

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Hi Peter, I'm constantly surprised by the variability in audio reproduction. Digitisation, digital source formats, audio servers, network hardware, DACS, amplification, analogue cables and headphones seem to be able to contaminate the reproduction of sound in some form or another. Sometimes...

It's interesting how much the digital source is able to change the sound. I suspect that latency and power hygiene have a big part to play. I found that the Chromecast responded very well to improvements in power supply (I'm using a Sonore LPS) and the use of Ethernet connection (Wifi...

Great news that the mscalers are finally hitting the Americas. I'm looking forward to hearing more impressions soon. I've probably listened to more music in the month since I've owned Mscaler than in the past two years. My wife has commented that she's now a widow to my music. To recap my...

I'm at end game stage (IMO and for my budget / desire). The supplied BNC cables work fine - no dropouts for me and my Hugo 2 sounding a lot better (with mscaler) than without. I enjoyed the Wave BNC cables with the Hugo 2 and Mscaler enough to pay the asking price after a trial. I am not...

Just listening to thunderstruck (Tidal FLAC from the Iron Man 2 soundtrack) - it sounds awesome on my mscaler - no screeching, distinct instruments and vocals. Thumping bass slightly subdued compared to the deepest I have heard but absolutely great audio even if it isn't my usual fare. I'll...

Quick 10 minute comparison between Nvidia Shield Tablet in Airplane Mode, USB Audio Player Pro in Bitperfect mode, USB micro to USB A socket adapter, Wireworld Platinum USB cable to Mscaler And Roon (Desktop PC), Ethernet Connected to Chromecast Audio, Auduoquest Micro Toslink adapter, QED...

I'll do it if I can find a cable when I get home. Airplane mode and using USB Audio Player Pro. I'll compare to Roon / Chromecast and Optical with the same FLAC file on both. Ade

Yes - good point. I use an Audioquest adapter. Many TOSLINK cables seem to come with mini TOSLINK adapters in the box - if not you'll need an adapter.

I am lucky to have a QED Reference TOSLINK cable and haven't tried any others - I'll try the one that came with the mscaler later. I can't imagine that there will be much difference... But who knows?

Thanks. I can thoroughly recommend a Chromecast to any existing Roon users who are not using an optical connection to m scaler (I believe that Roon & Chromecast together may be better than Chromecast alone due to some custom coding in Roon). Roon now supports Chromecast as a supported network...

I know what you mean. I use Ethernet by default so rarely experience WiFi on my main setup. IMO mscaler is special. I was initially surprised when I heard impressions from people who could hear little difference. I've gradually realised (and especially after a dealer demo that fed TT2 /...

I'm using an LPS1.2 (ultra-capacitors) mainly because I have one for my ultrarendu (I use an adaptor cable to convert it to a USB socket). I think that this is pretty good at providing fast current similar to a battery. I don't remember hearing the leaner tone you mention but I didn't spend...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Ethernet and WiFi seem to be quite equal in terms of sound quality from the CCA optical output. I use Ethernet because my WiFi is not always great but I'd happily manage with WiFi otherwise. It's the optical separation that seems to make a difference for mscaler. RFI hygiene / removal reaps...
