Qobuz Lossless Streaming Service Thread
I don't think this is what's going on. My current best guess is that the sample rate indicated in the lower right is actually correct, but that my WASAPI (exclusive mode) API is somehow being confused by the Quboz app to set the wrong sample rate, and then sample rate converting. But that's... -
Qobuz Lossless Streaming Service Thread
Serves me right for saying I've had no technical problems: playing Qobuz today on Win 10, I see that the app appears to be mislabeling the bit depth and sample rate of tracks (indicated on the bottom right). Oh well... -
Qobuz Lossless Streaming Service Thread
I’m at the end of my 30 day trial. I’ve had no technical problems on Win 7, Win 10, Mac or ipad. The issue is the at times limited catalogue. -

Yes, best example is patent pools between large firms with no payments make. Patents only get used against other firms.- StefanJK

Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
I'm about to send my Yggy in for the Analog 2 update. I'm not sure about doing to Gen 5 USB update as well since I use the AES / EBU input -- anyone know if that input is improved by the Gen 5 upgrade?- StefanJK

Tidal Lossless Streaming
Has anyone else had this problem: as of around 10 days now, Tidal updates to 2.2.1 or now 2.2.2, but then won't work. After the update I can't log into my account and use the app. I can revert to an earlier app version. But since there's no way to disable the auto-updates, if I log out or... -
New Schiit! Ragnarok and Yggdrasil
Very helpful: it's not the sine wave, it the high power sine wave that leads to debiasing. And yes, I don't really care how the amp does on high powered sine inputs.- StefanJK

New Schiit! Ragnarok and Yggdrasil
Not really a concern (yet), but I wasn't able to follow the reasoning about how overcurrent fault protection was starving the output stage of bias current when you feed Rag a sine wave (but not music).- StefanJK

Tidal Lossless Streaming
Most recent update, at least on Win 7, make the interface much faster. Much less waiting. Actually good. -
Tidal Lossless Streaming
Yep, not something everyone will notice, it only becomes visible if one mouses over. Not a good design. Now how do make it stop going back to 'system default'? Def. better in exclusive mode. -
Tidal Lossless Streaming
Yes, what did the update to 1.2.0.697 do? I don't see WASPI, though there is 'use exclusive mode' and 'force volume'. Maybe that is WASPI? Annoyingly, Tidal always resets to 'system default' when I close/reopen it. Update: the new setting may be an improvement...or I'm fooling... -
Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
The 'per se' is doing the work here, I hazard. A DAC with a 'completely different' purpose. Which is? I assumed it was room correction or some form of digital cross-over, but I'd not count that as completely different purpose.- StefanJK

I'd go for something with DEQXeque functionality -- did just get a Yggy and I'm not breaking that set-up or paying DEQX prices. I did look into it a bit.- StefanJK

Tidal Lossless Streaming
Any way to give Tidal (on Win 7) 'exclusive control' to a playback device? I'm used to that from Foobar2000. -

yggdrasil technical measurements
Yes, please don't do it for anything but your own purposes. In any case, I'm not going to switch Dacs right now...but I am flexible about inputs. I hear Moffat likes AES, but I also see concerns that AES may be misdisigned for high sample rate digital and hence more jittery than it ideally...- StefanJK

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
I'm pretty much totally happy with the stuff that I have that Schiit makes. The margin for improvement is on the transducer side and room treatments, maybe (?) room treatment related DSP. In the longer run I might go for a bigger and better Rag Uber/Rag 2. How much room is there for...- StefanJK

New Schiit! Ragnarok and Yggdrasil
How does Dirac Live (or similar) play with Yggy? I've not tried it and I'm not going to use the free trial until I'm in a new house in a next month. Does it destroy (most) of the filter magic?- StefanJK

Schiit Gungnir DAC
As people say, snapping the USB board in is trivial. Watch out to unscrew the right screws opening up the case (i.e. don't detach any boards). Getting the LEDs lined up was easy for me working alone, but you it did seem like it could get messed up if you bent them out of alignment somehow. ...- StefanJK
