Vinyl vs Redbook in 2015
So, blind or sighted, audiophile casual evaluations are unreliable then? What's the replacement (i.e. "non-casual")? Is this a recommendation that I forget about it (comparing by ear at all), or..? OK, so what is the PS Audio DLIII DAC doing when "resampling" at the DAC...- jtaylor991

Vinyl vs Redbook in 2015
My DAC is an oversampling DAC. It actually doesn't even give you an option: 24/96 or 24/192, no "none". I read a while back that it will take a 24/96 or 192 file, downscale it to 16/44, and then upscale it again. In addition to that, it doesn't support DSD, and I'll want to try out DSD and...- jtaylor991

Tinnitus
I'm your age with a similar situation. I don't even notice police cars usually since I'm listening to music when I'm traveling 90% of the time and that combined with mental focus totally masks it. Anyway, if I were to guess, I'd say I hurt myself from blasting earbuds (after parents...- jtaylor991

Vinyl vs Redbook in 2015
I've spent most of my weekend reading through a couple of these drawn-out vinyl vs. digital threads. My stance has never been that vinyl was technically superior to digital, because I totally understand how it simply ISN'T. That being said, I have collected some because I get a sense of space in...- jtaylor991

Quote: I'm not "on his side", but what he said in that post seems to at least possibly make sense if it were backed with anything objective. Are you saying that it's pointless to try to point out that his anecdotes don't mean anything? (Just making sure I understand is all) ...- jtaylor991

Kansas City, MO/KS meet anyone?
I am quite upset that I wasn't able to make it to this one. I've had a lot going on in my life, and that isn't quite slowing down, but considering how long this one took to plan, might we start the conversation for the next one?- jtaylor991

Ipod classic - rockbox - its happening.
Any update on getting a digital line out for an actual DAC? I'd love to invest time into making this thing be a great DAP for me that will allow me to upgrade the SQ later when my future cans/IEMs demand a better DAC than whatever is built into the 7th gen classic. If this is a feature...- jtaylor991

I wish it had a full size SD card slot instead, though. That'd be nice; I don't trust microSD as much, it seems like a more fragile standard, i.e. always more expensive, more fallible due to its size and manufacturing, etc.- jtaylor991

Holy Schiit! Add DSD to any DAC for $149. Meet Loki...
It's just hard to measure the quality of the Loki because of its independent nature. We're trying to get a grip on how good of a DAC Loki really is...with no point of reference. I'm sure it's plenty good, but is the little $150 DAC going to do proper justice to those ultra hi-res files...- jtaylor991

Holy Schiit! Add DSD to any DAC for $149. Meet Loki...
Is there a perceived benefit to converting PCM to DSD to play back on Loki vs. a high-end PCM DAC? I'm confused how one can make a $150 DAC that could outperform SO much higher, even being DSD only. Is it the money into all the stuff surrounding the DAC that makes them more expensive, and not...- jtaylor991

DSD, to support or not
I've been kinda out of the audiophilia game for a while, I took a break. I'm a high school student who had the realization that I was spending mad money on equipment with barely any music to enjoy! So I've gotten into buying plenty of vinyl and CDs (still not much of a collection relative to...- jtaylor991

Kansas City, MO/KS meet anyone?
I really don't have any gear to bring to the table anymore, I decided to put my money towards actual music (I'm pretty young, a high school teen doesn't need to be putting his money to equipment as much when he already has a nice stereo and only like 200 albums of music to listen to ) I have...- jtaylor991

Ipod classic - rockbox - its happening.
Hey guys. I Rockboxed in Jan or Feb and haven't updated since. Currently running version "93130beM-130110". Where should I update. I'm pretty sure I got this build from the aroldan dropbox. I was just in there and last update was 6 months ago, not long after I Rockboxed. Did something happen, am...- jtaylor991

Windows 8...
Hey guys, temporarily back in just to drop in. I kinda just left Head-Fi after selling my headphones to get out of debt and then moving my stereo into my main living space, removing the need for headphones. Now my money can go to actual music! It's been fun, no animosity, but I need to get away...- jtaylor991

Let's Catch A Thief!! (Update: CAUGHT!)
Doing undoable harm to someone as a means of "justice" is never the way to go, because when you screw up, look at what you've done. Aside from that, how is irreversible physical damage to someone ever justified if they didn't do the same to you? Money is not the same thing as a physical part of...- jtaylor991

Let's Catch A Thief!! (Update: CAUGHT!)
Guys,. let's seriously quit the talk of removing body parts for theft of currency. I'm not one to get "butthurt"/offended on the internet but c'mon, let's be reasonable.
