Has anyone experienced difficulty getting an upstream USB filter to work with the Qutest? I plugged my Uptone ISO Regen into the signal path and the Qutest disappeared from Windoze.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try "gain matching" the DAC and the amp so that I get the most number of usable steps in the volume pot. Lack of balanced outputs was the one "concern" I had about the Qutest. My former DAC offered balanced outputs to the balanced inputs on the GS-X.

Until I read your post, I was blissfully unaware about the SU-6. The specs look interesting. For the price, I'd throw one in my system to see how it sounds. I've got a message into Tim @ Kitsune to see when/if he's going to start carrying the SU-6.

I had nearly the identical setup for a while. The GS-X and LCD-3 combo was a great pairing.

I had a chance to listen to the LCD-4 at a meet recently. Having owned & loved a pair of LCD-3's I really wanted to fall in love with the LCD-4. Despite my obvious bias, the Utopia did it for me and bought a pair soon thereafter.

I keep my GS-X on the low gain setting. The volume is usually around 10/11 and rarely goes over 12 when driving my Utopias. I don't find the Utopia's too difficult to drive. ....or at least not with the GS-X

Why don't you get a balanced headphone output for £3,996? There are balanced XLR connections on the back for connecting an external amp, but not a balanced headphone jack.
