THD in IEM and when to panic...
Absolutely! Sometimes I feel like a lot of measurements are provided without much context. Anyway, considering I didn't hear any distortion with my ER4's, I'm not particularly bothered.- Killcomic

THD in IEM and when to panic...
I was lurking around the Audio Science Review forums and something caught my eye. People were absolutely losing their minds over the THD measurements of the Etymotic ER4XR. They were all going "Ermahgerd! The ER4XR have over 1% THD! Worst IEM ever! Cats, and dogs living together, mass hysteria!"...- Killcomic

Take care when adding water or liquid to the tips. It could instakill the filter if it gets to it. Those filters are an annoying running cost.- Killcomic

Have you tried the foammies? They don't sound as good as the triple flange, but at least you won't be in pain. Using the small flange, you might not get a good seal for your left ear and you might end up with uneven sound. You could use a small one on your right and a big one on the left, but...- Killcomic

Gosh, I haven't been here for a few years and this thread is still going! XD Well, I finally did it! I got my ER4XR! After owning the ER3XR and ER2XR, I thought I was prepared. I kept hearing people say how the ER3XR sounded the same and how boring it was compared to the ER2XR. Well, I wasn't...- Killcomic

[FiiO M6] Portable High-Resolution Lossless Music Player,Embracing A Wireless Future
I'm kinda sick of Fiio's app (latest version). It's slow, clunky and the replay gain is a bit hit or miss Poweramp places waaaay too many DSP's in the way and resamples everything. Neutron is great but eats battery like it's going out of fashion Unfortunately, you can't even get UAPP since it...- Killcomic

Oh! Good to know! I was considering getting some! I wish that Etymotics sold the brown filters by themselves! I wanna try them but I can only get them in the tuning kit. I'm broke 😅- Killcomic

Good call! You should not be hearing any harshness or sibilance on the highs.- Killcomic

I find it unlikely that it would be the cause. Have you tried changing the filters?- Killcomic

@msvrthexkid Hey, I found the sibilance on the pronounciation of the words to be non-existent with the ER3XR. If you hear sibilance using the ER3XR, then it's possible that its not fitted properly or the filters are not fitted.- Killcomic

A/B testing
Hell yeah! Ha ha! I'm worried about that too! I'm working out the methodology and I hope to be able to do it myself without compromising the objectivity of the test> And yes, I might go into the do-it-yourself rabbit hole, because rabbit holes is what I do! XD- Killcomic

Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Discussion Thread
Well, I did it. I bought the Yaxi pads for my MSR7. I don't know if the worn stock pads were messing up the sounds, but it sounds sooooo nice with the Yaxi. It really balances the sound nicely, taming the treble spike and high mid. Vocals no longer have that hollowness and sibilance is reduced...- Killcomic

What is "planar sound"?
Well, that's an implementation issue. If done correctly, for the sake of argument, they sound identical. However, as you mentioned, there's the bad crossovers. Mind you, I have the Etymotic ER3XR (single BA) and by golly I can't see what's so special about it. I mean, it sounds good if you add...- Killcomic

What is "planar sound"?
I keep hearing people talk about the planar and BA sound. I can't tell the difference at all. I suspect it's the same people that find sound differences with cables.- Killcomic

Is there such a thing as a flat IEM?
Oh, man. What a rabbit hole! I guess what I’d like is to find something that’s true to the source recording, but it appears that is far harder than I initially suspected. Perhaps, if I’m not a sound engineer, I’m better off simply finding something I like and just enjoying it without thinking...- Killcomic

Keeping ears clean
If you want to clean your ears, use a syringe (minus the needle) to squirt water and flush the ear wax. Be sure to be sitting down as you most probably will lose balance. As per doctor's instructions, I would strongly recommend against cleaning your ears with anything like a q-tip or any...- Killcomic

Is "Burn-In" Real?
That's not burn in, that's actual operational requirements of the technology. It's not a permanent change due to long term usage. Care to elaborate? It's pretty vague and not saying anything. Classic case of mental burn in. Unless there are measurements to show an actual permanent change in...- Killcomic

Strange vocal texture on some songs?
This is exactly the same issue I was having. I now use Musicbee to analyse the volume of my files and create gain tags. Then, I got myself a player with replay gain and problem solved.- Killcomic

Is "Burn-In" Real?
Short answer - No. Longer answer - You could see some change with usage, but it may not be audible or even beneficial. There's no evidence that I've seen to back the claims that sounds improve with usage. If anything, it's your brain adjusting to s new sound signature. For example, I was used...- Killcomic

To be honest, the only thing I found to make a difference with IEMs is impedance and how noisy the source us. Amps only affect loudness, unless the amp is colouring the sound somehow.- Killcomic
