It's interesting you mention this. I too have noticed this on my Matrix Mini-i 3 pro recently. In my case it's intermittent so it's been hard to troubleshoot. I'll keep you posted if I find the source of it. Do you have an external amp connected by any chance? (could be a ground loop)

My apologies. I corrected my post as I had tip/sleeve indicated for both of them. Should be tip/ring for one and tip/sleeve for the other.

The Beyer cable is wired differently than the Hifiman cable. One uses tip/ring configuration and the other uses tip/sleeve on the headphone plugs. Sorry I can't remember which is which but I discovered it when making my own cables.

Try opening device settings in Roon. (Click on the volume control in the Roon app and then on the settings icon). At the bottom there is a an audio device section, there you click on Device info and it will take you to a screen where you can switch to USB. This is weird as the more common issue...

Yup it's a great piece of gear. I ordered one and returned it as I found it too finicky, but missed the Loudness and EQ functions, so I got another one. Thank goodness for Amazon return policies! The ZS in combination with it makes for a great desktop system.

Yes I think we have a little confusion here. My Mac is plugged directly into the USB input of the RME ADI-2 DAC and doesn't involve the ZS at all. All I use the ZS for is Roon streaming with the ZS connected via Coax to my RME ADI-2 DAC. There's nothing connected to the USB output/input on the ZS.

I'm on Roon build 1.8 build 1105. Just tried it again with power down for only a couple of minutes, same issue, Roon shows as playing but no sound even though SPDIF shows as selected. Open settings, change to USB and back to SPDIF, sound reappears. I seem to recall experiencing this before...

I've found the same thing when powering down my ZS. Connected via SPDIF, Roon playing but no sound, reselect SPDIF in Roon settings and voila, sound again.
