USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best
I decided to order a second USB C OTG to Lightning cable. My first aftermarket purchase was at least a foot long. It looks like Meenova (spelling?) no longer makes that. Has anybody else found a longer cable that works? I see some cables aimed at drones but it appears those don't support...- originalsnuffy

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best
It is interesting how much love the RU6 gets considering its balanced output design is less than optimal. Cayin makes good sounding equipment but it still bugs me how quickly they dropped support for their first two Android units. My favorite dongle is much bigger than these but it has AKM...- originalsnuffy

New FiiO M11S Player with dual ES9038Q2M DACs, 670mW output power and 14 hours of battery life
I just hope the next version of this has AKM chips and maybe THX amplification Kind of a Q3 on steroids. Hopefully it will also function as a dongle. I'd be all over that.- originalsnuffy

[FiiO Q3/Q3 MQA] THX AAA amp technology, 2.5/3.5/4.4mm Output
To my knowledge, UAPP is only for Android. I took a look in the iphone app store and didn't see it. I do own it for Android, but right now I have no Android DAP devices. All my Android DAP units were terribly slow and introduced various audible glitches from time to time. I had been using...- originalsnuffy

[FiiO Q3/Q3 MQA] THX AAA amp technology, 2.5/3.5/4.4mm Output
Thank you for taking the time to test this unit out. I am very surprised how little attention this unit receives on the thread reviewing USB phone dongles. The THX version of this has a nice chip to reduce phone noise and works well. It took me a bit to figure how to get this unit to work...- originalsnuffy

[FiiO Q3/Q3 MQA] THX AAA amp technology, 2.5/3.5/4.4mm Output
Can the Q3 MQA drive two headphones simultaneously? I would like to share listening with my wife on an airplane. She would use a single ended output and I would use either a 2.5 or 4.4 output- originalsnuffy

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best
For what its worth, I think an iphone DAC benefits from having its own battery. And a mechanism to allow the battery to charge from the iphone (typically when it is plugged in via wireless charging) or not to draw from the iphone. But that of course suggests a larger device.- originalsnuffy

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best
I have a FIIO Q3-MQA unit that gets zero attention around here. It has THX power and AKM chips. I have not tried it with over ear headphones but it has its own batteries so worth doing a bit more research. Oh, I don't use the MQA but you want this version because it has a good USB sync chip...- originalsnuffy

The Fiio X3 Thread.
With DAP units I have found that sometimes they will boot if plugged in then booted. I would also try chkdsk from the computer. When you unplugged it you could have created drive errors that need fixing. This thread brings back great memories of my first good hi res DAP.- originalsnuffy

High end dap vs phone + dac/amp
Like HartPhoto sez; iBasso seems to provide great support. I have only purchased their IEMs but Paul is very active here. Right now I want an updated FIIO 11 with AKM. It used to have AKM pre-fire so I think it likely FIIO will return to AKM. My new FIIO AKM dongle is pretty nice. When I...- originalsnuffy

High end dap vs phone + dac/amp
For the comparison is there are two elements. Streaming/downloaded from streaming is quite different than files placed directly on the device. Soundwise, a good DAC/AMP (dongle) can be just as good as a dedicated. I have the FIIO Q3-MQA which has AKM chips and it sounds as good or better...- originalsnuffy

iphone Audio Amps for Dongle Users
First I should mention that except for DSD, nPlayer is a nice app. It has capabilitites for downloading files and streaming from a server. Cost is modest. Second, the free app from HiBy does provide DSD streaming support. However, I am having trouble figuring out how to reliably get it to...- originalsnuffy

iphone Audio Amps for Dongle Users
Dongles, or USB DAC-AMPS for phones, are becoming a viable way to listen to high quality music. There is a great thread for discussing that. What is missing is finding a great app to manage the music on the iphone. Apple Music is great for their closed ecosystem. Same with the Amazon...- originalsnuffy

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best
I remember reading some of your favorites on your website a while back. I wonder if you could share your top list at this time? Have you had a chance to play with the new FIIO Q3-MQA? Methinks FIIO has done a bad job of promoting a very nice unit.- originalsnuffy

Post your portable player journey!
Fun thread. Brings back many memories. Started off with portable cassette machines of course. I liked to run with music, and for the most part cassettes were bad for this. Sony had a sports series and outback series, and some were better. My best unit was a direct drive digital unit from...- originalsnuffy

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best
Maybe this question deserves a new thread. For iphone users, does anybody here use an app from HiBy or FIIO to drive their dongles? I have been using the HiBy app, with has DoP which is needed to get DSD sources to bitstream. The FIIO app seems to have DoP, but the iphone files app does...- originalsnuffy

I am wondering how this unit will compare with AKM based DAPs. I have heard any number of chipsets for traditional sigma delta but keep coming back to AKM as my favorite. But R2R seems to provide similar sound benefits so I am intrigued. And I love having the volume wheel and usability as a...- originalsnuffy

A few thoughts on DAC dongle usage with iphones. I think more readers of head-fi are andoid users than iphone users, so I always appreciate it when reviewers discuss their iphone experiences. So far I have tested three DAC dongles with my iphone 12 pro; and also used quite a few DAP units in...- originalsnuffy
