CCA in ear monitors Impressions Thread

I feel like the quantity is fine, but the quality, surprisingly enough, isn't as good as I'd expect for $35.

CCA in ear monitors Impressions Thread

After spending significantly more time with my CCA C12 I've come to the conclusion that the bass just isn't up to my standards. I like bass that goes low but is tight and clearly defined. I accept the slightly bass-lean signature of single-armature etymotics and sometimes goose 'em with EQ...

Usage of XL6009 voltage regulator for audio DAC/amplifier power source

fwiw, the xl4005 step-down modules i tried to use to power 12v fans and a meter of LED strip (about an amp? on a module rated for 5 amps or something silly?) from a 24v supply literally exploded. Switching converters under load tend to be pretty noisy, and that noise is hard to get rid of.

    Suspiciously AKGish drivers on aliexpress?

The klipsch hp3 link seems to have gotten mangled? I have some of the 40mm "composite mycelium of carbon" drivers (sometimes described as wool composite maybe?) and they look an awful lot like the biocellulose drivers i pulled out of the Aurvana Live (AH-D1001?) that i never ever listen to...

    Suspiciously AKGish drivers on aliexpress?

ok i pulled the trigger. I guess in 2 months when it gets here and i transplant it into the empty K400 frame I will let you know how they are. Maybe even set up my measurement rig and do some comparisons. I guess in the mean time i should design and print some oval "K ???" badges. And a set...

Glue to fixe my Shure SE846's

There's a product watchmakers and jewelers use called "hypo cement" which is basically like e9000 with a needle applicator already on the tube. It's not expensive. You'll want to degrease the surfaces first. Alcohol will work well if you got it.

    Suspiciously AKGish drivers on aliexpress?

I was poking around the aliexpress driver selection and came across these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32543482390.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.d3ef2e0eUx1CME Which are clearly in the style of drivers that started with the K400 and continued through at least K702, though with an earlier...

    Roll Call for Team AKG

Oh yeah, I kept meaning to update you. That driver that was probably dead? 100% dead. Open circuit in the coil. for sure. it saw some excessive DC and went *fup*. or there was a defect in the voice coil wire, which is rare but can happen. So i bought this pair thinking that worst-case...

Another addition to the collection. Listing said it had distortion in the left channel with increased volume, but i have a spare driver. I don't hear the distortion. Maybe just a hair through the pad? If i sniped this away from you on ebay i am a little sorry.

Indeed, it's like a k501 with bass, from memory anyway. been a while since i had a k501 on my head. Needs an amp with a lot of gain.

    Roll Call for Team AKG

I've never heard the K612 pro. If i remember right, when the K601 and K701 were released to replace the K401 and K501, the general impression was that like the 401 was to the 501, the 601 was the "fun" cousin of the more refined 701. But the K701 was such a big deal that hardly anyone bought the...

If the shells weren't both blue that would work great.

OK, like the filters etymotic ships. Thanks. I totally understand now.

That time when Kenwood put knee guards behind the cups of open headphones

The 120x90 pads i ordered turned up today and they fit pretty loose. I mean i don't think they will fall off but maybe the 110x90 oval pads from the same vendor on ebay would fit better.

    Home-Made IEMs

Sorry for no pics yet, I thought that got derailed. I will look for them again soon. They are in the original westone box somewhere, I am pretty sure i know where but not certain. What is meant by "damper" in this context?

CCA in ear monitors Impressions Thread

I'm a little annoyed that right and left aren't marked on the devices themselves. I'll probably put a sticker or a dab of paint on the right side. Anyway I'm not sure I am still hearing bass issues after listening to some music with fairly punishing bass last night - Einsturzende Neubauten's...

CCA in ear monitors Impressions Thread

The CCA C12 i bought for $35 a few weeks ago turned up yesterday. I don't have an in-depth impression of the sound yet. I mean overall good, something might be slightly weird in the sub-bass but i need more time with them. The flanges are disappointingly flimsy though.

    Home-Made IEMs

I'll take pics tomorrow. I am reasonably certain that i recall that it's a 3-driver module that Knowles offered pre-assembled, and that it's alleged that the crossover network was customized for Westone.

Thoughts on developing an open-source diy headphone chassis

The TDS-16 uses 50mm drivers that are inspired by the Peerless/MB ortho drivers of the 80's, which is to say that the drivers have round perforated ferrite magnets and a diaphragm that is pinched in the center. PMB/TDS drivers have a loose-but-flat diaphragm, unlike the Yamaha drivers which have...

    Home-Made IEMs

Anyone with a halfway decent camera and a relatively modern computer can do photogrammetry. Basically you take a whole bunch of pictures at different angles and software stitches them together into a 3d model. And then you have to do some cleanup on that model. Microsoft's free 3d tool for...

    Home-Made IEMs

I actually never heard the westone 3, was just a good deal on parts at the time. I like a mostly neutral signature with good bass extension but tight, clear bass. out-of-head imaging isn't important to me in a portable. Most of my favorite cans are modified orthos, but, from the unmodified...

Thoughts on developing an open-source diy headphone chassis

I literally typed "orthodynamic headphone driver" into the ebay search bar. I have a pair of 60mm drivers on their way from kiev right now. You can also just buy Echo H16-40C headphones (or other variations on the TDS-16) and take the drivers out. Apparently they have dozens if not hundreds...

Thoughts on developing an open-source diy headphone chassis

Yeah there are a lot of headphones out there that have angled and strategically placed drivers. A whole lot of Audio-Technica's high end stuff and Ultrasone S-Logic stuff come to mind. As for Hifiman and Verum, I guess you're referring to big cylindrical cups and a half-circle yoke connecting...
