    Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, Ithink part of the problem is often reviewers assume a headphone (or really, any product) needs to have some sort of fancy new technology or breakthrough. The D9200 simply achieve their sound through impeccable tuning and refinement.

FiiO FH5 - Quad Driver Hybrid In-Ear Monitors || Knowles Balanced Armature Drivers

I'm also not a believer of burn-in, particularly for BA IEMs of all things, but I do think there could be a strong psychological element to these IEMs. I've found many times moving from flat, bright or V-shaped IEMs to darker/warmer sounding ones require the most of an adjustment period. That's...

FA7, the first Quad drivers IEM from FiiO , all Knowles BAs and 3D printed technical , MMCX design

I agree with most of the above, although I think I like the sound signature a bit more than Brooko does. Normally that mid-bass lift is the worst thing an IEM can do for me, but I think there's still enough detail that it can be engaging with some genres. But yes, a few dB down would be better...

The Hifiman RE2000 - a high end dynamic IEM

LG has some trouble with output on low-ish impedance headphones. The RE2000 are harder to drive than most IEMs. I suspect it doesn't really feed enough power to them, as it sticks to the lowest gain mode meant for easier to drive IEMs and earbuds. I found something similar with the V40. The...

HIFIMAN Arya (& 2021 Stealth Magnet version) - Impressions Thread

Arya - these have some of the best bass I've heard on any headphone. It hits super hard and gives a more speaker-like impact than pretty much any headphones I've tried because of the huge drivers and pads. Meanwhile the bass is IMO the worst part of the Elegia. The sub-bass is nice and very...

HIFIMAN Arya (& 2021 Stealth Magnet version) - Impressions Thread

That's fair, just stating my preferences as those are the ones I have. Get the Monoprice, I think you'll be happy.

HIFIMAN Arya (& 2021 Stealth Magnet version) - Impressions Thread

Yep. If you need one of the monoprice's particular features, like the balanced output go for that. Dirac Sensaround is clearly better than ifis 3D+ on the Micro BL (it's better in later iFi devices like the xCan and xDSD). But the Micro BL can't be easily for versatility and power. I'm not one...

HIFIMAN Arya (& 2021 Stealth Magnet version) - Impressions Thread

Well, I think the iDSD Micro BL is better than the Jotunheim, so I'd say yes. Haven't heard the Lyr3 though.

FA7, the first Quad drivers IEM from FiiO , all Knowles BAs and 3D printed technical , MMCX design

Yeah, I agree with Currawong. It's very easy to get a seal with the FA7 in my experience, which might be why. Even the foamies don't affect the sound as much as I expected. I like the FH5, but after a few days, I still think the FA7 is a step above. Again, I think fiio's description of the...

HIFIMAN Arya (& 2021 Stealth Magnet version) - Impressions Thread

I almost bought the element myself! Then I figured I'd end up using the bass boost on the iDSD... Which I do. A lot. It pretty much saves some open back headphones from disappointing bass roll-off. The Arya, however, does not need it at all.

HIFIMAN Arya (& 2021 Stealth Magnet version) - Impressions Thread

I don't see what you'd need more than your current setup. That said, I'm using the ifi iDSD Micro BL, which I've read performs better than the magni at high power (which the Arya likes). The 3D boost is also handy for adding a little more treble energy to the Arya, which I like, while the bass...

FA7, the first Quad drivers IEM from FiiO , all Knowles BAs and 3D printed technical , MMCX design

Not sure if the.P series will fit - it's smaller than the FH5, but certainly nowhere as thin as a Weston's or Shure. That said, I really doubt you'll have trouble on isolation with these. Maybe it's just a particularly good deal with my ears, but these are among the most isolating IEMs I've...

    Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

Well, it turns out I'm still learning how to measure stuff. I think the EARS is great for its price and goal, but it does have a few design quirks. While I took 5+ measurements when I posted the graphs last time, and thought that'd account for any errors in seal, it turns out that wasn't the...

    Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

Well, considering I think the Elegia has a soundstage barely bigger than IEMs... They both have similar imaging chops, but the D9200 is definitely wider and slightly bigger overall. But the Elegia isolates more and let's out less sound, which probably has something to do with it. Nothing I...

    Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

Thanks for the impressions! I agree about their pleasant mix of bright and warm. They are not 'neutral' in the traditional head-fi sense, but they seem to have a very speaker-like presentation and follow the harman curve fairly closely other than some extra brightness up top - which makes them a...

HIFIMAN Arya (& 2021 Stealth Magnet version) - Impressions Thread

Since I haven't seen any measurements for the Arya yet, here are some I made earlier today. Please note this is with the MiniDSP EARS, which is not an industry standard tool, so it's only really useful for comparison purposes. Compared vs the Focal Clear as it's something else popular in its...

    Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

Thanks! I'd still say it measures pretty extended - keep in mind that my graph starts at 10hz, not 20. It's basically flat all the way down to 24hz and only then drops off a couple of DB; in the RAW it stays above 84db calibration down to 20. That said, I might try Tyll's rubber band trick and...

    Introducing CL2 Planar (Impressions Thread)

How closely does impulse response correlate to speed? Because I've had the the KSE1200, for a couple of weeks now and they don't really sound faster than the CL2s, at least with what I've traditionally considered to mean 'speed.' What should one be listening for? Not just trying to be a CL2...

    Sony MDR-Z7M2 Headphone Thread

Yeah, they have really excellent detail retrieval even if they're not too forward with it. Using the 3D+ mode on my iDSD Micro BL adds some treble energy and really works well with these. I haven't heard the Z1R but I think these are TOTL closed-back level, their presentation is just a little...

Focal Elegia - what do you think?

Might be a terminology thing. I think of bright as the overall tonal balance rather than just the treble. As I mentioned in my previous post, i hear more of a treble spike with the utopia around that low treble, but the overall tonal balance on the elegia strikes me as brighter/dryer. Tis weird.

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

I think the EQ is plenty robust. No, you can't adjust indiviudin frequency bands, but it can drastically affect the sound. Wan more of a V shape? You can do that. Want it more linear? You can do that. Want more bass and less treble? Fine. Or perhaps more treble and less bass? Doable. The nice...

    Sony MDR-Z7M2 Headphone Thread

Also, these are wayyy far from bright and harsh to my ears. I actually wish they had more treble energy! Bass is decently controlled, but it still hits. Those are 70mm drivers after all.

    Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

Pretty much echo my thoughts about the HD820. It's impressive on a technical level and throws out sound further than any closed back I've tried, but the low mids are weird and they sound kind of distant as a result. I actually prefer the HD820 to their open sibling because the bass presence...

    Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

I think if your office isn't completely quiet and you don't listen too loud, it should be fine. They do well at low volumes too. They do leak more than some closed backs, but it's not too bad. I guess it depends on your standards though. My girlfriend doesn't wake up when I'm listening with...
