Violectric HPA V281 - Vorsprung durch Balanced

I've been through several amps - including a GS-X mk2, Moon 430HA and a few others. Listening to a v281 with the 128 step and remote now and I consider it to be one of the best ss amps I've heard. There's isnt a headphone i've owned that doesn't sound good with the v281. Its got a touch of...

Congrats. Let us know how you like it, after the honeymoon period

Considering GSX Mini and Benchmark HPA4..

Sure. There are also measurements that contradict it. -1db at 30hz and -2 at 20hz per innerfidelity. Even then, you're not going to hear anything below 20hz and even at 20hz you may not hear it on your headphones anyway. In any case, I dont make purchase decisions based strictly on a chart. I've...

Considering GSX Mini and Benchmark HPA4..

Best is based on synergy with my system, how neutral an amp is etc. Massive coloration ? Have you even heard the v281 and 430HA. Because the general consensus is they considered neutral or as close to neutral you can get. I certainly haven't heard anyone refer to these as massively colored...

Considering GSX Mini and Benchmark HPA4..

I never understood why the Moon 430HA isn't celebrated more here. But again, there are some amazing products (eg: RME ADI-*, Ultrasone Signature Pro/DJ) which dont get a lot of press for reasons I don't want to get into. The moon 430HA and the v281 are two of the best solid state amps I've...

Considering GSX Mini and Benchmark HPA4..

I had a gs-x mk2. Was looking at getting a HPA4 but decided not to. While reviews are generally great and it seems like a technically awesome amp i also read reports that its a bit cold, analytical sounding. I got a great deal on a Violectric v281 with the relay volume and remote. While i...

Closed back Headphone recommendations needed please?

Another vote for the Ultrasone Signature DJ and Pro. Excellent headphones that dont get a lot of mention here (as they dont have marketing folks here unlike some of the other brands). Seriously good closed headphones and nothing comes close in the price range.

Phonitor is not a good amp?

I have the Z1R and just went through a similar decision process myself. I have two great dacs (Kitsune spring L3 with singex and RME ADI-2 Pro FS BE). Just sold my moon 430HA (which is actually a great great amp) just to try something new. I dont enjoy analytical hyper-detailed amps. I value...

    Ultrasone Signature DJ

I took a chance and purchased a brand new pair. Have been listening to them for sometime. These are wonderful headphones and are here to stay. They are my portable/office headphones. The 300hz dip was offset with the RME ADI-2 excellent eq. The sound quality on these is absolutely superb. Bass...

    Ultrasone Signature DJ

Thanks. I've read that the aftermarket options change the sound signature. I didnt proceed with the used pair with the worn out pads. Found a brand new pair that I purchased so dont have to worry about the pads for sometime now.

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

I'm trying to connect the unbalanced 1/4" mono output from the RME to a single ended portable amp that accepts a 3.5mm mini. Is anyone familiar with a good quality cable. I can make one but wanted to see what you folks out there use.

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

I dont think the bass is slow, nor do I think these have "epic" bass. They have mid-bass but not low bass. The treble peak ~8k is definitely troubling. I returned mine and back to using the TH900 mk2. Speaking of bass...

RME ADI-2 Pro - DAC, Headamp, an a lot of more stunning features

The RME dacs are such a good value and give dacs costing 2-3x a run for the money. They dont have a marketing machine on head-fi like a few other popular dac brands do. I enjoy the RME ADI-2 Pro. Such an amazing piece of gear that punches above its price point. I love the look of the upcoming...

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

Update. After a few days of burn in, I gave these a critical listen and sadly I won't be keeping them. It has plenty of mid-bass but it doesnt render sub-bass well in my listening. The mid bass also bleeds into the mids. The treble also bothers me. I was hoping to use these as my work cans. I...

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

Received the Dekoni leather pads and I really like what its done cosmetically and functionally. Isolation is great. The headphones look great with the pads !

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

Now that I can change pads :-) I went back to the velors. The bass seems a bit loose on the pleathers. Might try the Dekoni. The headphones are still breaking in but these and the DT150 maybe my office phones. Leaving the pad issue aside, these are really great headphones for the money.

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

I had the T5p ii at one point. Now that I've listened to the DT1770 and DT150, I would take either of those anyday over the T5p.The T5p has great detail but it was lacking in the bottom end. The DT150 and 1770 are more to my liking. Well rounded and works with almost anything you throw at it...

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

RME ADI-2 Pro. But the earpad nonsense put me off big time. I spent hours today on this crap and my fingers are hurting. If there's one reason I'll get rid of these its the stupid earpad design.

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

The pleather pads are almost impossible to get on correctly and I damaged one of the pads. The velors are a shade better to get on but its still a pain. Its ridiculous. They're still burning in but I my initial impressions are very positive.

I dont have my V281 anymore. But it was into the 12 clock range. Depends on gain setting as well.

Violectric HPA V281 - Vorsprung durch Balanced

Probably, being the keyword there. I'm not comparing this with a simple alps pot. Instead I am comparing it with the stepped attenuator of the GS-X and the unique volume control of the Moon 430HA. If there are advantages to the v281's volume control compared to these, it probably exists only on...

Violectric HPA V281 - Vorsprung durch Balanced

My headamp GS-X and Moon 430HA also give me perfectly balanced LR channels but are completely noiseless from the headphone while adjusting.
