...it has a stock heavier tuning like Caldera that doesnt change much with the chain. Susvara OG is like a mirror reflecting what your rig does. It has a ton of heft and weight to the notes on the right rig - if its what you are going for. Listening to this right now on my Envy, zero...- Leto Dal

Just get a listen with Red October. You have a good reference with Envy, then you'll understand. A stock Red October at that which is ludicrous*- paradoxper

How compares the phantom to the envy? In october im traveling to demo envy and cayin and i wish they have a top tier like riviera, only to listen, i cant go further than envy +we300b. But listen to the riviera or the trafomatic with my susvaras should be fascinating. Even those wonders sound...- Sand Dan Glokta

This. I was so impressed Phantom Susvara combo that I end up getting one myself. Preferring Phantom over bliss kte and OOR Hypsos. Probably one of the best in 3k-5k range. Plus I got a capable estat amp for the future in one package. Disclaimer: I have never heard the pro iCAN signature so I...- Feischmaker

Well wa33 elite solves the debate, envy envy isn’t necessary, there’s lots of big boy amps to be had. But I guess Europe hasn’t had access to tube grand daddy amps as much till envy.- Whazzzup

...extension) I strongly disagree about musicality. Thats the only factor that would hold me back buying an AIC and considering it an upgrade over Envy in my chain. RO on the other hand is a different story it seems. But I am not someone who raves about technicalities like some people do, I...- Leto Dal

Not to start up some annoying objectivist discussion but there is no such thing as technical performance and musicality right.. these things are also in the ear of the belistener. The only thing we as an audio community can do is aggregate subjective takes and say "most people who listened to...- plumpudding2

Fair enough but I can't agree with you saying envy is at the same level as aic10 and I don't think many people will who have owned both or heard both extensively. You might prefer envys sound Signature over aic-10 but that doesn't mean its equal, they are not equal for technical performance and...- DJJEZ

AIC certainly has an edge in detail retrieval, punch and bass extension over Envy, just not by a margin it would make me take it over what Envy brings to the table with We300b mids and the overal coherent soundscape that feels just right to my ear.- Leto Dal

Wow. Ok... if someone just prefers how an Envy sounds, I wouldn't argue on that. Fair game. I'm pretty stunned someone can listen to both and say they're equal even on just a technical level. But we all have different ears I suppose. Just my experience! I'm horribly off topic here, so I'll...- walterboss

Did you hear the Envy again after burn in btw? I spent half a day with AIC-10 recently (May as source) and while I liked a lot what I heard, but I wouldn’t say its a league above my carefully adjusted Envy chain, it packs more punch, and has an edge with detail retrieval but I wouldn't trade...- Leto Dal

Surely that's Envy AE you're referring to there? I listened to AIC all of last night. I had Envy with upgraded tubes, Elrogs and WE as you know. AIC blew Envy away. It's different league. As in, totally blew my head off. There were renditions of music that I've never heard like that last...- walterboss

Yeah it isn't on same level as AIC but there are very few things that are. I would still place HM1 a step above stuff like Bliss or non AE Envy. Envy has a grainyness to its sound that even with We300bs or Elrogs is still present. AE is for sure a clear step up from original but it still has...- unfitstew

I've owned the wa33 elite for 2 years. Same for red october. Owned hm1 for many months before selling. Spent 5 weeks+ at home with aic-10 recently, heard masskobo 465 at a meet recently and heard envy a few weeks back at a friend's so I'm talking from personal experience.- DJJEZ

I think it largely depends on what you a) prefer, and b) want to get out of the pairing. Obviously anyone is free to prefer any pairing over another purely because they decide they like it better, but if said person is listening to acoustic jazz or german techno plays a HUGE part in which...- chrisnyc75
