But how are you adjusting volume then? On the source? If is done in digital domain could degrade quality. Actually can degrade if is done in analogue as well. Important is that you're happy :)- Zeljko

When EQing just be careful with levels to avoid distortion. Actually your approach is correct most of the time. Distortion is not just unpleasant, could damage equipment. But you all probably know that and I'm not long enough here to teach you.- Zeljko

Exactly what I'm talking about. And you described even better in your next post. To give you answer to your question, in theory will ruin original record. And that's true if listener over EQing. But what's the difference of changing freq response with amp, cables, cans, mods or EQ? Well, all of...- Zeljko

I meant that equalizer is not audiophile approach. Modding is, of course. But is huge difference to change cable and mod sophisticated mechanical device. Modding electronic device would be much easier, at least to solder something. How to calculate what to change is completely another story.- Zeljko

I would not mess with closed planar headphones. Most probably any modding will make them worse. Safer way is just to play with equalizer. Not audiophile approach I know.- Zeljko

Use HA-2 in USB mode to use its DAC, otherwise will be just amplifier for sound card and depending of output could make distortion. On other hand, experiment and find what suits you the best regardless of the theory ;)- Zeljko

Check Motorola phones. I have Moto X Force, definitely not cheap but works flawlessly with HA-2. Moto has cheaper phones as well, like G, X or Nexus 6 and using almost vanilla Android with only few and useful Moto features.- Zeljko
