No. Balance line out is not balance headphone out. The V281 is built in 4 amp system with 2 amps (V220 amp board) for each chanel. Which make it become true balanced headphone output. The V220 only has 2 amps inside, 1 for each chanel for SE headphone output. Do your homework 1st before you...

Did youtry the balance out of V281? In my opinion the V281's single end out tend to be a bit dark (warm sounding), but the balance out is very neutral and not dark at all.

Update 2: I changed the V281 gain setting from +12db back to 0db. The high gain did gave me some WOW factor but after long term listening i found the sound is a bit harsh and too strong on bass. Sometimes the instructmental sounds too loud to my ear.   The original gain setting at 0db sounds...
