Best place to buy output transformers for under $100?

Dear forum,   I am getting ready to construct a headphone amplifier and I need a little help finding good output transformers for the circuit. "I will say that the type of transformers I get will likely dictate the type of amplifier I end up constructing as well. I was really hoping to...

    Rebuilding an old tube amp.

Quote: Im hoping that by switching to a lower mu tube it will reduce some of the noise that's left in the circuit. Though there's a chance tube socket also needs to be replaced as well. I am open to other suggestions however

    Rebuilding an old tube amp.

Today I cut out the tone controls but left the gain knob in. Going to attempt to clean it up without replacing it. Next I'm going to rewire the 6eu7 to a 12ax7 to try and reduce some of the noise. I also threw a few resistors on the output circuit to simulate a larger load, which helped with...

    Rebuilding an old tube amp.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't know that much about the amplifier and its really appreciate that you informed me. I have already soldered a headphone jack onto the amp and I replaced all the caps. I managed to cut down on some of the noise just by soldering some resisters onto the output circut...

Headphones with best soundstage for ~$300

Thanks for every ones input, I know they fall a little under the price I quoted, but after doing some more research I stumbled upon the  Philips Fidelio X1.  They are supposed to have good soundstage and bass, what do you think?

    Rebuilding an old tube amp.

Thanks for the responses, right now I am using the ATH A700 "around 64 ohms" and the ATH M50'S "about 38 ohms,"  And if possible, I was wondering if I could ask about the issues that accompany using the OPTs I have now even if they are only rated at about 4-16 ohms. I honestly was just looking...

    Rebuilding an old tube amp.

Quote: I've heard of the Bottlehead Crack but need to research the rest. As for the precautions, yes I am well versed and have even had my fair share of mishaps with tubes in particular. "Those electrolytics caps can really shock you :P" thanks for the input. Which one of these tube amp...

Headphones with best soundstage for ~$300

Thanks for the reply and recommendations, I have begun to realize that my price range really is the limiting factor. If I raised the amount to five-hundred however, would my options change. I have heard good things about the K702, is the anniversary edition actually better than the normal though?

Headphones with best soundstage for ~$300

Thanks for the list and thanks to everyone else who responded. As I understand it, open backed headphones tend to have some slightly better sound stage, but do tend to leak. Also, and please correct me if I'm wrong, open cans tend to be less responsive in the bass range in comparison to their...

    Rebuilding an old tube amp.

Dear Forum,      About a year ago I pulled this little guy from my grandparents old sound system: I constructed the cage and installed the power switch and light in the front. Now, a year has passed and I now have some free time to work on it. Presently It does work, however, it has...

Headphones with best soundstage for ~$300

Dear forum,   I am currently using the ath-m50's and the ath-a500x's for a majority of my listening needs. I use the a500x's while I am at home and the m50's while on the road because of their durability and portability. I love the m-50's and think that the a500x's are also a good headphone...
