I think it had been powered down too long and the battery was completely depleted. I don't think the seller realized they needed to hold the power button down.

Thanks for the suggestions @Andykong! I'm a service technician for all types of electronic equipment so I was about to start making myself a cable, when I remembered I have a USB-C dongle that has a USB-C power input as well. I plugged that in and bingo! N3Pro is now working properly as a DAC...

Anyone have any luck using the N3Pro in DAC mode for the Pixel 6 Pro? I have it working as a DAC on a PC but no luck with this phone. Not sure of this is a Android 12 issue or a Pixel 6Pro issue. Both my Google USB C to 3.5mm adapter and my Creative Super X-Fi DAC work with the phone though.

I bought mine second hand and have had the same problem with the volume wheel since the day I received it. If I put slight pressure towards the back it works better. I would love to DIY fix it, but the fact that it mostly works with the right pressure is keeping me from opening the case up.

Picked up an N3Pro second hand, love it!!!! However, volume knob is wonky, I have to either put extra inward pressure on the back or outward pressure on the front to get the wheel to register. Since I bought it second hand I doubt I have any warranty coverage, I don't really want to send it in...
