E10 won't work with a phone, it requires USB power.

I'd prefer a more desktop oriented one in the fashion of the E10 if possible.   Also, how much different is the E17 vs E10?

Hello,   Let me start off by saying that I am fairly new to the audio world, as I just purchased some Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250 Ohm cans and a Fiio E10 Olympus.   Problem being, I got a Fiio E10 with a bad headphone jack that has static and buzzing noises that have worsened over my few days...

On a somewhat related note, as the thread is regarding the E10, and the OPer has Beyer DT770 cans. Have you had any trouble with the 770 connector with the E10?

What was the issue you had with your one defective unit? Was it a touchy/static headphone jack?

IIRC, the E10 is rated for up to 300 Ohm, and reports seem to be that it can properly power 250 Ohm cans such as the Beyer 770-990 series. 

Yeah, my desk is in my living room (also an open concept house) right near the TV. The closed DT770 Pro are looking like the best option, but I worry they will be too bass heavy and not have a nice range.
