LED life?
If it can make you feel even better, many companies that make traffic lights use 100s of leds for each light source and they back their products with a lifetime warranty. I once spoke with one of the guys repairing a traffic light here in Quebec and he had never seen one LED blown. Most of the...- TooL49

LED life?
Contrary to bulbs, LEDs don't use a filament which tends to get used over time. This wear and tear come from the frequent hot/cold transition in the filament. A LED is very unlikely to break if you never over power it. If you calculate the series resistor properly, it can last a few decades...- TooL49

PPA Battery Board
Hehe I rotated the images now. Quote: Keystone's mechanical drawings always seem to leave some critical info out, and other info can only be derived by chaining together multiple measurements. So, no surprise, I did find some mistakes in your parts. Mine are still not 100% accurate, but...- TooL49

PPA Battery Board
I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for... but I've given it a try... I had two objective, not touching your traces (at any cost) and laying it out for 10x AA minimum (actually after those precisions you brought about minimal border space, I also found the 2x4+1x2 to be the max...- TooL49

PPA Battery Board
Oh well then, I suggest that the charging board be separated from the battery board and rather compact. This way, someone that would like to use different type of battery holders could simply use the board and connect his battery holders differently. I really prefer AA's to AAA's so I'd be one...- TooL49

PPA Battery Board
Just read through the thread and I saw in the first post from Tangent saying that AA batteries could be an option (well not fully supported I presume). While I'm no big fan of "huge" (questionably) portable amp, I believe in portability. Thus my questioning. With an average of lets say 75ma of...- TooL49

Drilling PCBs
Hi, I would suggest three little tips I use to make the bits last longer. First, if you can find it, use all epoxy PCB material. These are a little bit more expensive (about 1$ CDN per square inch) than fiberglass (about 10-35¢ CDN per square inch) but they don't dull the bits so fast and...- TooL49

Help - Woodworking - Cigar Amp Case
Lets say your component is a 6mm 1/8 jack. What I would do is use a 6mm drill bit to first pierce the wood through. Right after, I would use either 1/2 or 3/4 of inch drill bit and go only half the wood thickness. You have to be careful on the press drill not to go through. If you use the flat...- TooL49

DIY speaker stands -- any ideas?
I built mine about ten years ago. They are simple as can be. I used 3 plates of MDF 12"x5"x3/4" glued together for the bottom plate, a plate of 7"x7"x3/4" for the top part. In between I used some old oak broomsticks, two sticks per stand, one in front, one in the back. To hold everything...- TooL49

CMOY question.
One easy trick I found over at Tangent's website is to measure every resistor with your DMM and match them in pairs as closely as possible. This might not be as advanced as your reading technique, but it is easy, and will insure that your amp is as closely balanced as possible.- TooL49
