You know this is one of those headphones that doesn't make you go 'wow' yet you will curse yourself if you forget to take them on your next trans atlantic flight.  I have not attempted mixing on these - doubt I'd try that, but these are surely some decent sounding headphones. Well built and solid too.

I've given these at least two dozen chances as few of my colleagues swear by it. However, I find them highly uncomfortable to wear. I am a small person and these headphones for one, feel huge on my head. I find it hard to position them just right to get the imaging right every single time. The headphones sit on my ears and not rest on my head which causes discomfort/ on my earlobes after a few minutes. This one is far from being my favorite headphone, unfortunately.

This is one of those items that I use every single day, take for granted.   I wouldn't be able to work without a handful of these in the studio. The headphones we give to every single recording artist - the kind they love. They can crank the levels up on their hear back mixer as much as they want, yet the leak remains very minimal. I have had these thrown around, kicked at, what not. They survive. Perhaps the single most item in the studio, on which I wouldn't put a fragile sticker.

I bought my first pair of these headphones blindly as a student, based on the recommendation of my lecturer at SAE more than a decade ago. It took me a while to get used to it, but I haven't looked back ever since. Perhaps its what I got used to, but the fact remains that I can trust the sound of these headphones to get a mix out without second thoughts. There was a time when I thought I'd get myself a 'better' pair of headphones. But I ended up getting a second pair of these bad boys after the first pair of these gave up after a long 6 years or so...
  5. Audeze EL-8 Open-Back

EL-8 fuses the best of many worlds for me. Picture if you will, the deepest, well defined bass you have ever heard. Now add to the picture the warmth only a ribbon tweeter can produce. Top all this off with the cleanest high end you can recall. What you just imagined, my friend, is the sound of EL-8.   With its brilliant spatial definition and resolution it didn’t take me too long to realize my preferred choice of headphones has now changed. A choice that had not changed for over a decade, despite having tried many makes and models of headphones...
