Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Wow, I googled those amplifier and they look like beasts! I love the way the Aegir sounds, even when I had it hooked up to my Magni 3 as a preamp. With the Freya N is just about all I could every ask for, maybe except for extreme volume, which in that case I'd just add another Aegir. I usually...

I have the same situation. I'm on my second Freya N. I've tried multiple sources, cables and diffierent amps. The popping noise continues. I can hear the popping when the tube mode is active as well as when it engages and disengages. I'll still hear it for about 30 seconds passive and buffer...

I tried going from my dac to the xlr input and rca output on the Freya N to the Aegir but unfortunately the pop was still there. Thank you for the advice. I appreciate all the help.

I’ve tried single ended from my dac and both rca and xlr to rca cables to the aegir. I don’t have a balanced dac but I do have another xlr to rca cable I could use for the dac, I’ll give that a shot and report back Thanks

    I typically don’t listen very loud. In tube mode I’m usually at 1 o’clock and passive/buffer around 2-3 o’clock.

Glad to hear you reduced the noise to the point where it’s not an issue. I’m using the Freya N with an Aegir and 89db sensitive speakers. My first Freya N had a loud enough pop where I thought it wasn’t normal. Schiit sent me a second one which was actually much louder. The first only popped in...

I have lively speakers as well (Goldenear Triton 7s) which is why I went with the N over the S. Thanks for sharing your tube comb, where did you purchase the tubes? I’ve tried so many integrateds to tame the upper midrange, luckily the aegir with the Freya seems to do that. Quick question, you...

Wow that’s crazy. I never would have thought of that but I guess anything can cause interference. That great you found the culprit. Tracking down noises can be daunting. On a side note, do you have a popping noise coming from the speaker when you turn the volume past 12 and 3 o’clock in tube...

Sorry to hear about your experience, hopefully I’ll get lucky. I’m glad to hear you Freya S has good synergy with the aegir. I’ll definitely keep that in mind as an option.

That’s great to hear. I’ve gained so much knowledge from reading these forums over the years, I’m glad I could give back. Tubes are wonderful for music but can be finicky. After reading this thread, I purchased one of the last closeout Freya Ns. While it sounded utterly amazing with my Aegir...

I mostly lurk and rarely post but I’ve run into this situation with a few different amps. Many of my amplifiers, tubes or solid state have been antennas for Wi-Fi signals. If you have a strong mesh Wi-Fi system you may have to move the direction or location of the wireless router. I have a...

    Focal Utopia General Discussion

Question for Utopia owners out there... How often do you need to replace the pads? I read that the Clear pads seem to wear out quickly, like a year if used daily. Are the Utopia pads the same way or do they last longer? Any input would be helpful. Thank you

The New AEON 2: It's The End Of MrSpeakers

I heard that on my original Aeon flow open. It sounded like a spring softly getting plucked. It was very low level. I only could hear it when I walked around with them on. Definitely didn’t stop me from loving them. Unfortunately I don’t have any idea what it was coming from. I haven’t heard...
