Audeze LCD-4z - Impressions Thread
Today, I tried Oratory1990's EQ curve on the 4z, and the result was nothing short of astounding. I can't recommend this enough. I also checked out Sonarworks' SoundID (which includes an EQ curve for the 4z as well) but it pales in comparison to Oratory's work. (Haven't checked out Audeze's...- tjwb84

Audeze LCD-4z - Impressions Thread
I've checked out the 4z on a $500 DAC (RME Babyface), the HUGO TT2, the HPA4 with one of the Benchmark DAC's, and now the ADI-2 Pro FS R. In my opinion, the 4z is extremely forgiving with regards to DAC (much more so than even other Audeze headphones I auditioned). Also, the difference between...- tjwb84

I auditioned the Ether 2 (and many others) before purchasing the 4z. Regarding the exact features you name - resolution, details, and transparency - the 4z absolutely, overwhelmingly outperforms the Ether 2. They are in completely different leagues.- tjwb84

A great way to find out more about what's going on would be to check out how these recordings sound to you in a professional recording studio. That should put to rest any doubts about what the 4z is doing. I realize that may not be practical, though. I have done so, and as I said earlier, I'm...- tjwb84

It is indeed interesting how all of our experiences are so different! I have also heard about the 'harsh treble' or 'glare', and I even (thought I) heard it during one demo session at the store. I guess I've gone back and forth on that one - treble is still something I'm fine-tuning in my mixes...- tjwb84

Haha that's like hearing myself talk! I purchased these because I don't have access to a room with good acoustics, so my studio monitors are useless for bass reference. I posted this a few pages ago- "I am loving the LCD-4z. It is amazingly revealing, and close enough to neutral to serve as a...- tjwb84

Audeze LCD-4z - Impressions Thread
Sure, happy to! Basically, as many people have commented, the 4z are a bit dark and 'muffled' in what I would call the upper midrange and treble. To counteract this, I have constructed an EQ curve by ear. I am NOT attempting to correct published frequency responses. By going by ear, I am tuning...- tjwb84

Hey guys, I thought I'd check in after a few months and share my thoughts. I've finally gotten a chance to upgrade my DAC, to the RME ADI-2 Pro FS BE (quite a mouthful), the new black edition of the ADI-2 Pro. Having used the 4z for a few months now, I'm still extremely happy with them. Now I...- tjwb84

RME ADI-2 Pro - DAC, Headamp, an a lot of more stunning features
Looks like a new revision is on the way: https://rme-audio.com/adi-2-pro-fs-be.html A few retailers have it listed. In their descriptions, they claim it has the AK4493 chip (a slight improvement over the old ADI-2's AK4490), so it looks like this version of the ADI-2 Pro uses that chip (just...- tjwb84

I believe it is possible to run VST's in a 'systemwide' mode on Windows, yes. From a quick Google search, I'd look at an application called Equalizer APO: https://equalizerapo.com/ This app is itself a systemwide equalizer, but it can apparently also run third-party VST's, so you should be...- tjwb84

Fabfilter's Pro-Q 3 is an industry-leading software EQ, and one of the best I've used, both in terms of audio quality and interface. It costs 150 euros. Audeze's Reveal plugin has its advantages too: it's developed especially for the 4z, and it's free. I don't know how good the audio quality is...- tjwb84

After a few more days of listening and comparisons, I now agree with you guys that the 4Z does indeed deviate from flat quite strongly, especially in the upper mids, and possibly a bit the treble! Today, I decided to play around with the EQ settings on my audio interface. After a few minutes of...- tjwb84

A few more thoughts after more listening, producing, and comparing the 4z to my monitors. I know I’m talking a lot about production here, so I appreciate your patience with my ramble. Perhaps I should post this in a production forum. Speakers have an undeniable advantage in terms of...- tjwb84

As others have indicated, yes it's the LCD-4z, and the new mesh is a cosmetic change! FYI, all serial numbers after MG430505 have the new mesh. Interesting comments from you guys re: the cables. I am looking forward to experimenting with those.- tjwb84
