Depends. Tonally maybe yes, but detail rendering and air gets a pretty severe hit. After trying this DAC, it only made me want this DAC but with a higher "resolution".

I have not compared the surround of the THX suite of the Recon3D/Titanium vs. the SBX-surround personally, but i have read enough posts which suggest that they are NOT the same, and that the majority clearly favours SBX-surround over THX-surround.

Can you route the SBX-surround from your onboard implementiation to optical-out? Then you could go optical-in to the G5 for original SBX.

Ah, it's a max9722. Gives 5mW more at 32Ohms compared to 97220.
