New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)

If you scroll through the thread, it seems to still be an issue as of now, for Tidal specifically. Not sure about Qobuz as I am not using it. The net of it is that Tidal routes audio via Android mixer, not directly to DAC. It's not dependent on the streaming setting (it's off, yet Android still...

New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)

Here's a pic of A306 playing a hi-res Tidal track to external DAC, which confirms audio is output as hi-res (green light = 88.2kHz-192kHz). It didn't change when I switched to a CD quality track so it looks like Tidal might be upsampling. This is with hi-res streaming turned off. Edit/add: when...

New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)

I have just noticed (I'm not using wifi too often) is that there's interference/noise in the left channel wherever wifi transfer is active (it's audible even with mediocre chi-fi IEMs). I've seen this mentioned in some early NW-A306 reviews. How widespread is this?

That "tip" significantly reduces sound quality and defeats the point of buying a device like A306.

My battery consumption in idle state (screen turned off, no playback and no Wifi/BT) is approx 1%/hour, which is a little bit more than I'd expect, but I think it comes down to Tasker doing its work in the background. I have the Walkman turn off automatically when not used so I am not too...

New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)

Since a few days ago, I started having issues with boot times - my Walkman is set to turn off automatically and it now takes 1-2 minutes for it to boot. Most of the time the Walkman is stuck on the SONY logo; the Android/Walkman logo and Walkman slogan follow rather quickly. I did install some...

Interesting. All is good on my Walkman. Same (if not louder) volume on BT vs wired.

I assume you got the Media slider in Sound settings all the way to the max? BT volume in some apps seems to be controlled by this slider; Walkman app bypasses it. I had it randomly go down once, but then it didn't reoccur.

Yes but I assume that due to this particular use case and purpose, OP doesn't want the sound to be in any way altered/enhanced. (And, in this context, the obvious caveat is that Bluetooth audio as such is compressed so even if lossless FLACs are used as input, the sound will be modified.)

If you connect to a bluetooth speaker, the speaker's DAC will "take over" and will be used. Player specs don't really matter at that point, assuming player supports the same bluetooth codecs the speaker does. You should get the same sound quality you get from NW-A306 from any Android phone.

Interesting. Battery Care worked once for me (on Android 13) and then stopped. Good to see it's fixed.

I spent some time yesterday tinkering with Syncthing (https://syncthing.net/) - a robust, actively developed cross-platform open source synchronisation tool. With my music collection being on a NAS and being 500GB+, installing and configuring Syncthing on my Walkman enables me to keep my...

Regarding battery life when using USB-C dongle - a completely unscientific test: pushing a 45 minute hi-res FLAC album to my HiBy FC3 at indoor listening levels reduced battery life from 84% to 77% (~9%/hr). Screen, BT, wifi was off all the time, I was using stock Walkman app.

Given it works well with the USB-C ato 3.5mm adapter and it works when UAPP upscales, it looks like an issue with the Px7 DAC. Have you tried the USB cable in your computer in direct (WASAPI, ASIO) mode?
