Grado sr60i. Hands down for rock/metal/acoustic. Don't need an amp. Sound great through iPod jack, but amps make them open up more.

I love grado! I currently am still using my sr60i's but my sr325i's just shipped! Can't wait to begin the burn in process.

Are you able to audition any of the aforementioned gear? That would definitely help.   Concerning the music you listen to, it would be hard to find the perfect setup to address a lot of different genres, so would you say you listen to more rock or more Adele type stuff? Since you want to...
