For those who own the D1, how do you think it would pair with the Ultrasone Pro 550 (64 ohm)?  Would the amp noticeably improve sound, or just make it louder? I may buy a DT770/600 in the future.

I will comment that foobar2000 is great. I use that with the WASAPI plugin, which bypasses the windows kernel for sound processing.

Just get a sound card. I got the Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer used for $35 shipped. As far as I'm concerned, gaming surround headphones with multiple speakers are garbage, when its that close to your head it doesn't matter how many different speakers are in your cans.
