OK I took the plunge and bought some WD-40 silicone lubricant spray. Sprayed some on a q-tip , and rubbed it into the socket.  All the crackle is gone. Yeah buddy!  Now I can enjoy the headphones again.

Someone on Amazon has suggested to spray the connector and tip with a Silicone Based lubricant and it resolved the issue.  Anyone dare to try?

I bought some modified Shure E5c with the 535 plug.  Thought this would be great but I'm having the same issue and I don't use these for the gym.   For me however, it only happens when i move the wire.  So as long as its secured and im listening to the music its not happening, but if i turn or...

I have decided its some sort of microphonics and happens randomly during movement. It seems like it happens on multiple devices. I was thinking to replace them with the Shure SE210. Do you guys think they are comparable sound quality wise?

The cover on my memory wire cracked, making moisture run up the earpiece of my e5c's while i was working out. I wrapped my wire with teflon tape, seems to hold up ok for now. Will look for a better solution.

id go with in ear monitors myself , but maybe someone can recommend a good pair of cans
