You don't need need one. Maybe it is much better with an amp. I used mine as a dac only so cannot say much about the headphone amp.

I never head a Schiit Audio DAC. I've Listened to the Amethyst and the Jade side by side and i own a Amethyst myself. . Altough the Amethyst is no slouch soundstage wise, the soundstage of the Jade is much better. Same goes for seperation, control and transparency.

But the naim sound inst there. I hope it will open up, because otherwise i am going to sell it on.  

Something like that. The dac was also fuctioning as a preamp and sended the signal to the preamp of my naitxs. Until i changed the settings in the dac so that the volume is locked.   The detail of the naim v1 is wonderfull, unlike anything else i heard. 

My comperison was before i bypaased the preamp (too bad). With Fixed Volume enabled it sound much better,. Mutch more detail and instument seperation that i did not hear with the rega.
