Suggestions for "fun" IEM's at ~$400?
Quite new to the whole portable audio game, but I've had my Shure's now for a while. I always found them a bit cold and unengaging though, especially until I tried the Senneiser IE80S (almost found the bass overwhelming, but at least they made me smile). So could you please help me with some...- th0m

New Audiolab DAC
Hmmm... how much deviation from the actual sampling rate over coax would you say is acceptable before you should start thinking about getting another source (sound card in this case)? I'm seeing values like 176.407 or 192.003 kHz for example. I don't know, maybe I'm just nitpicking. I'm a...- th0m

Get a Naim Nait 5i or keep my Rotel/Stello combo?
I've decided to concentrate on my speaker setup since I'm listening to headphones more and more rarely. I have an opportunity to buy a used Nait 5i, and I'm just wondering whether you think it would be much of an improvement from my current setup (which is a Stello HP100 as preamp and a...- th0m

spdif output settings on win7?
It won't have any effect at all in that case. Those settings only apply to the Windows mixer, which is bypassed when using WASAPI.- th0m

Pictures of your computer rigs! Post them here!
I forgot to include my cans, but I suspect you already know how they look. I'm gonna get a pair of decent stands in the future, since the current speaker placement is far from optimal, but overall it works pretty alright.- th0m

Coax polarity? (Sound card mod)
Yes, apparently the 20-pin header provides i2s output, but having to mod my DAC for i2s input goes way over my DIY skills, so I probably won't go that way just yet. btw, is there any advantages to using a BNC socket instead of an RCA on the card? I mean, I would still need to use a...- th0m

Coax polarity? (Sound card mod)
Thank you, very helpful answer and pretty much what I thought myself. My DAC is fine (thank god). I'll probably try again, and do it correctly this time.- th0m

Coax polarity? (Sound card mod)
Didn't take any pics and I've thrown the card away, but the joints were rock solid as far as I could see. Like I said, since there isn't any ground connection in this case, only + and -, I'm thinking I was supposed to have isolated the socket from the case? I used this socket and assembled...- th0m

Coax polarity? (Sound card mod)
Ehm ok, so... I did this mod a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't quite work out the way I'd hoped. It worked alright at first, but I noticed there was a crackling noise whenever I just tugged or jiggled the attached cable a bit, and when I tried to play files at higher sample rates...- th0m

Replacing regulator on sound card?
Ok, so I've got this idea to replace the voltage regulator on my ESI Juli@ (the chip labeled "U1" in this pic), which apparently regulates 5v to 3.3v, with one of better quality. I'm not exactly experienced in these matters though and will have someone else do the actual soldering. What I need...- th0m
